I posted in the General - All Canadian Immigration forum @ https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/police-certificate-current-and-past-countries.771557/ and based on a suggestion in that thread I am hoping others can chime in here.

The summary I guess is:

Based on readings on canada.ca and elsewhere I see that all PAs need a police certificate for any country they spent over 6 months in (if over 18). But in IMM5533e "Document Checklist Spouse (Including Dependent Children)" it says

PA must submit police certificate...
The country where you currently live, if you have lived there more than 6 months or more AND
The country where you have lived most of your life since the age of 18
Which sounds different.

Does my wife to be need to get a certificate from that country if she spent ~9 months in it - other than her native Portugal - in the late 90s?

Yeah I'd say get a police certificate for both the main country of residence and any country with over 6 months (bear in mind it doesn't have to be continuous, so if you visited 6 times each time for 1 month that also counts)

Thanks DimT44 and Kaibigan (your post didn't come up when I searched earlier or perhaps I didn't search well).
I guess 'more' documents is better than not.

If anybody else reading this has experience on this please reply, appreciated
