I landed in May 2013 to become PR and went back to my country (USA) immediately. Later I moved to Canada permanently in Jan 2014. I have been living in Canada since then except for a month this year when I visited my parents in India. If C6 come into effect in September and I apply right away, will I need any police clearance certificate from USA or India?

they will surely require if you been out of canada 6 months, forexample if you lived between 2013-14 in USA i would gather police certificate. But if you been to India for only 1 month they will not require unless its rare case were their is red flag on your name which again is rare.

Hi newuser2018,

If I apply on October 1st, 2017 (assuming C6 is in effect by then), 4 years back is Oct 2013. So I was in the US between Oct '13 to Dec '13 (3 months). So I don't have to get a police certificate in this case?

One question I have about the residency calculator. If I landed in May 2013 and came permanently to live in Canada on Jan 2014, when did I actually became permanent resident - in May 2013 or Jan 2014?

they need police certificate if you have been out in one country assuming USA, as I said before its rare for them to require 1 to 5 months. just apply and see if they require it.

check the date on your record of landing on IMM1000 or IMM5292/IMM5688, usually the date on IM1000 is your official date of becoming permanent resident, if you don't have IMM1000 you must get VOR one asap.

Hi guys,
Could you please clarify what does "4 years immediately before the date of your application" mean, in terms of police certificate. Does it mean that I need to calculate 365 x 4 days back, and these 4 years would be the relevant period, or these 4 years are calendar years?
Here is my case: I arrived as PR on 1 February 2014, and planning to apply for citizenship when C-6 is implemented, lets say 01 November 2017. If I calculate "immediate" 4 years before my application, it would be year 4 - from November 2017- to November 2016, year 3 - Nov 2016 - Nov 2015, year 2 -Nov-2015 - Nov 2014, year 1 - Nov. 2014- Nov 2013 - No need to provide police certificate, because I leaved in my home country November, December 2013 and January 2014 - 3 months. At the same time, I spent the whole 2013 in my home country, and if we take four CALENDAR years before the application, i.e. 2013-2017, the police certificate is obviously required.
You help based on you experience would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

my dear friend use this official: https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do

you will be able to calculate correctly including dates you have been away, if you resided 6 months any country after PR they will definately require police certificate and i would gather right now but can still apply citizenship and about when they are about to finalize application they will send letter for police certificate, so you still have time either you can get now or wait until they will request it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't answer my question as it was formulated, very precisely: do I need to take into account calendar years or just a period of 365x4 days before the application.

once bill c6 becomes effective these fall you should qualify perfectly by just 365*4. So far chill and enjoy the summer everything will be fine, if you still have questions or doubts i am really advising you to call IRCC tommorow earlier they will be more than happy to answer and give crystal clear answer about this question.
