Hello everyone,

I have filled out my application and I have 434 points. What are the chances that I might still be drowned from the pool? And is there such thing that they lower the points towards the end of the year?

A good idea for me would have been to get 2 years of work experience, but I would have gained it on July 24 2019, but my Visa expires on July 15th, 2019, so I guess that is not possible.
Also, I have a 2 year diploma and if i go to school for 1 more year, it would only give me 8 extra points, correct?

Is the only way for me to get the extra points by asking my employer to get the LMIA?
I am starting to freak out as I am kind of running out of time, and I really don't know what to do.

I would really appreciate all the help!
Thanks a lot!

1 - In order to get points for having "two or more certificates" one of the programs must be at least a 3 year program.
2 - You can max out on your IELTS or take the TEF if you speak French.

There are many ways to increase points, but let's talk about extending your work permit.

I'm going to guess (since you didn't say) that you are on a PGWP? (By the way, don't call that a visa, it is a work permit; visas are different documents in Canada).

Depending on what your country of citizenship is, you *may* be eligible for one of the IEC work permits.

Yes, you could ask your employer to apply for an LMIA, but without knowing your NOC, it's hard to suggest whether that is realistic. There are LMIAs for temporary work permits (one way to extend your work permit, as well as to increase points), this costs your employer 1000 CAD - this would solve both problems. But for points only (no work permit), your employer could apply for the LMIA to support your PR application for free. The process is the same, however, and in many cases, that is the bigger deterrent than the fee.

You also have plenty of time to look for a new employer who might be willing to apply for an LMIA, or who already has a pre-approved LMIA...

So if I just take one year program to add to my 2 years, it won't add any points? So I have to take a 3 year program?

In terms of the IELTS test my score is 8.5, so

Thank you for your response!

I am actually on a Post Graduate Work Permit, I went to school here and I got a 3 year work permit that expires in July.

I am from Ukraine, and could you please clarify what is an IEC work permit? I will also check if I may be eligible.

I have been debating with LMIA as well as the NOC code that works for me the most is 1241 - Administrative Assistant, is it still possible to get LMIA for that?

You mentioned that for points only my employer could apply for LMIA to support my application, how does that work?
I am missing just 10 points in order to be drowned.

I really appreciate your help!!

Also an LMIA for a temporary work permits, how would that work? As technically I am missing 2 weeks after my work permit expires to get to 2 years and get extra points.

Same way as the other LMIA process, he just doesn't have to pay. But it still might be difficult, since your employer would have to show that they could not hire a qualified Canadian - that's the trouble with NOC 1241... it is technically eligible but....

What province are you from? Check their PNP, this will give you 600 points for EE if you get nominated
