POF @ Landing

Hi Folks
I am going to land in Canada with my family on 5th July. M really confused about POF. How do I carry them so tht there is least conversion charge. One of my friend took half money in DD and half cash. But then I believe conversion charges on DD are high. Pls suggest. And if DD which bank?
Pls help.it's kinda urgent.
