Hi!

Asking those who have recently gotten PPR/student visa:
Would you so kind as to share what amount of POF you've showed in support of your application, namely:
1) funds for all the years of study including living expenses for the same interval;
2) funds only for the first year of study including living expenses

Thank you!

I showed funds for my entire 2-year stay. (Full tuition + 28k for me and my wife). However, my IRCC consultant advised me to show about 30% more than the minimum requirements for the first year of studies (tuition + living costs). She stated that since I was going to Toronto, the minimum funds requirement listed on the website would not be enough.

This goes more or less in line with Guide 5269 which states:

'What requirements must I meet to get a study permit?
  • have satisfactory proof of financial support:
    • If the duration of your studies in Canada will be less than a year, proof of financial support for the duration of your studies in Canada.
    • If the duration of your studies in Canada will be more than a year, proof of financial support for the first year of your studies in Canada.

Thanks a lot for your comment and link provided!

What amount do u advise to show if my program is 16 month /4 terms (with no break in summer) MBA program from Lakehead University with total 50K CAD tuition fee?
I will also have my toddler with me, so I suppose for living expenses I will need to show 10K+4K.

Thank you!

Who is looking after your toddler while you study? Day care is expensive and there are long waiting lists. Have you secured a spot in daycare? Estimate $1k per month so add another $12k to show that you can afford care. Assume you are not working part-time unless you have arranged care.

Have you paid your tuition?

Hi Naturgrl!
Thank you for your comment.
Didn't know about the long wait lists for daycares.
Daycare was my hope to give my toddler while studying.
No I haven't paid yet.
What would you advise me?

You have to research daycares as many will state closed for intake. In Ontario, I know people who get on lists before the baby is born. People are always posting about needing care. Does the university have one? Do you have a car to drive and drop off? Most daycares only run Monday-Friday from 7-6 p.m. You can look at home daycares but like licensed ones, they are only open Monday to Friday.

If you have evening classes or want to work on weekends, who will look after your child because daycares are closed? You may need to be living there and show residency before you can get on a list. Estimate $1000 per month for a toddler.

I won't be working while my studies, unless I am lucky to find a remote survival job as obviously there is no one to take care of my kid while daycare's closing hrs.

Not a car holder either.

The university yes, it does have a childcare center near the university.
I will ask it about the waiting list thing, I hope it does give a priority to uni's student.
Thank you for your tips, dear Naturgrl!

Believe the university day care is closed for intake. Assume there is already a long waiting list.
