OK fine, but the way you wrote it was very ambiguous. Just be careful and clarify if you are stating a guideline or opinion.
And it's also fine to bring less than 10k and say you'll be wiring the rest later, for example.

Yes Ma'am. Thank you for that

So just to confirm.

It is fine to bring less than 10K and tell them that you will bring the rest later on when you have your Canadian bank account?

The question they ask is just for customs and not related to the funds you should have for the setup in Canada.

Even for a familly of 4 - When asked how much money you have - It is fine to say that you have less than 10K?

Thank you

IRCC requests that you have a certain amount available, they don't ask you to bring that with you in a suitcase full of cash, preferable low unmarked and non sequencial bills :P

Fact is they have already analysed that and they were satisfied so they gave you a PR.

It's perfectly fine to assume that the candidate will arrive, open a bank account and then transfer the funds over when he is ready to do so...

I myself expect to be living of my current credit cards before I get all that sorted out in Canada after I land, so I'm not taking anything with me. If the officer asks for proof I'll use my mobile banking app to show him my current saving's balance. In fact I'm hoping I'll get a job initially and not have to transfer anything over at all at the start... then I can use my lump sum to start a mortgage on a house.

As far as declaring you have more that 10 000 CAD with you, I think you should only do that if you actually have that amount on you... if, like me, you left it safe and sound in a bank ready to transfer it when needed, then it's not with you so don't bother as you'll probably cause confusion with the customs officer.

Hi all,

Do you have to show any POF after getting PR at landing, to the border officer?
If yes then you have to show the bank statement of last six months?
Thanks.

CIC says that bank statement should be fresh, maybe a week prior to landing.

Hello,

Traveling tomorrow for a 2 weeks soft landing time to fix all thing in my home country and go for good.
My question is related to the POF question at the A/port. We are a familly of 4 (2 Kids).

I will take with me :
- around 3K CAD Cash
- around 4K CAD in my Visa credit card
- a letter from my home country bank with the amount that I have (+22K CAD)

Do I have to declare having more than 10K CAD at the customs Office? Is this declaration only for currency/customs or an important info to take a decision to let you enter Canada?

Thank you

I am not an expert and therefore take the following with a pinch of salt.

When you arrive in Canada with Can$10,000 or more in your possession, you must report it on the CBSA Declaration Card (if one was provided to you), or in the verbal declaration made to a border services officer.

I believe you will only have to declare 3k that you are bringing in cash, you do not have to declare your credit card (unless by credit card you mean a prepaid card foreign currency card) or money in your bank account.

It's $10000 per person. You and your spouse don't need to declare.
