POE / Work Permit

I just received my POE Introduction letter for work permit a few days ago. The application processing time was a lot quicker than I expected only 10 days.

Whilst I'm very excited about this it has also raised some questions I'm confused about.

It says it is valid until this time next year. Am I understanding correctly this is not the actual validity of my work permit but just this letter of introduction validity? In that I have up to 12 months to enter Canada and then I will be issued my work permit at the point of entry?

My understanding is that work permit lasts for 2 years but this isn't written anywhere on the introduction letter other than permit validity until this time next year. Which i'm hoping is just the validity of the introduction letter itself and not my work permit.

Sorry if I seem a bit panicked but I had intended to save for a few more months before heading over to Canada and this introduction letter has left me more confused than anything.

Hey there,

Not to worry, your Port of Entry letter is valid for 12 months from the date it was issued to you. This means that you have 12 months to enter Canada otherwise the POE will expire and you will have to re-apply, as long as you enter Canada within them 12 months you will be fine.

I'm not sure which program you on, it sounds like the IEC which are generally 24 months duration, this could differ from country to country agreements but as far as I'm aware it's 24 months.

Just a little too for you regarding the savings, IRCC advise that you have around $2,500 CAD upon entry to the country you can have more or less but it just shows you can support yourself until you get a job. Also remember to bring your confirmation of health insurance and other documents the CBSA may want to see.

If on an IEC apart from what the previous poster said such as having travel insurance for the full term, proof of at least 2500 cdn plus passport valid full term make sure before you leave the CBSA area that you have been given the permit validity you expect.

I say this because some people have been surprised that despite meeting the landing conditions they find they get 12 instead of 24 months either due to some note on their file or a CBSA error. The note on file one people found most annoying as that was totally transparent to them in any documentation from CIC but actioned by CBSA.

Lot harder to sort out after leaving the airport as can involve a paper application to update, just saying.

On other hand dont over think things just enjoy the experience as although above does happen it is not often.

Hello Guys,

Just a quick help. I got my SOWP approved and flying on 13th July. I was wondering what documents i need to show at port of entry (POE) and what questions i would be asked !! added to that do i need to carry any cash in CAD to show that i support myself during my stay (my wife is on student visa and she has $10,000 CAD in her savings account)

Any help or suggestion on this is highly appreciated.

Thanks
