Inland applicant.
I wanted to ask if anybody knows about CIC`s passport requirements for permanent residence.
My children’s passports are expiring within 6 months, in the beginning of June, 2016. And I wonder, when CIO sends me PPR, will they tell me to renew passports, if they are expiring in 6 month or less by that time?
The PR visa is valid till your meds are valid OR the validity of your current passport, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. Well, since you are an inland applicant, you would need to either go to the border and walk back OR you can make an appointment with CIC to complete your "LANDING" formalities. Well, to avoid any trouble, I suggest you to apply for a new passport ASAP before you get PPR.
Does CIC issue PR cards for the period of validity of the passports? I heard that PR cards get issued for the duration of 5 years. Is this duration contingent upon the duration of passport? Or it is not related to passport’s validity period at all, and stands alone, irrespective of one’s passport?
As I have said before, the PR Visa (Not PR card) is valid till the date your meds are valid OR the for the period of validity of your current passport, whichever comes first. PR cards are issued for a period of 5 years (irrespective of the validity of your passport) which has to be renewed after that. Please note that if your PR card expires, it DOES NOT mean that you have lost your PR status. You can renew a PR card after it has expired provided you have maintained the residency obligation in Canada.
After we become PR do we still need valid passports until we become citizens?
Of course you need your passports. You guys are not yet citizens so to travel abroad you will need your passports. When returning back to Canada, you will need a passport AND a valid PR card. If you forget your PR card while traveling OR your PR card expires during your foreign trip, You must get a one time travel document from a Canadian embassy/consulate in the foreign country.
This is only my opinion. If anybody else has a different opinion/feels the need to correct my post, please feel free to do so!!!
Thanks!!
