I am not really familiar with BOWP procedures as I had not thought I would need it.
I believe they are refering to a BOWP application. No the work permit application that we have.

I suspect having a AOR would be one of the major requirements for it though. Either ways we should get number before May of next year.
Waiting is all we can do at this point.
The problem is that I have to travel back to my country of origin this December and also apply for temporary resident visa for my spouse. In such a case, having it valid just until May is not favorable. :(

May be the PNP office should be able to guide.

@ cannonbarrel

The PNP issues the letter for work permit renewal as a routine procedure. In your case since your current work permit is valid till May 2015 you don't need this letter right away and as MK correctly pointed out you can apply for BOWP once you have the AOR and your current work permit is expiring in 4 months. The earliest you can apply for BOWP is February 2015.

There are no issues with either traveling outside Canada or applying for spouse open work permit/TRV. However I suggest applying for SOWP as it has a higher success rate and it helps if you have a skilled job with around $ 4500-$7500 in your bank account and your current work permit should be valid for at least 6 months at the time you apply for your spouse's open work permit.

This is insane! The OPNP took enough time as it was for the nomination portion (took 11 months to get my certificate), that now that I was feeling a little bit more at ease trusting the federal process would go more efficiently, these rumours start to float around? Is there any way to track your application before you receive the AOR? How does GCMS work exactly?

@ananas, my GCMS application has completed 30 days today. They claim to respond by that time. I am trying to call CIC to talk about it. Hopefully we will get some updates.

any update
@shareview:

OPNP - Asked me to contact CIC about the work permit extension.
CIC - No need to extend work permit as long as it is valid for more than 4 months.
No information about applications till they are with CIO. The only way to contact them is email.

So basically, nothing new to know :-s

1. PNP certificate should be submitted to CIC/CIO within 6 months of issue. Thats all. All these are mentioned on cic and pnp websites. Once it has been submitted to cio(the clock starts ticking), it does not matter whether your certificate expires or not.
2. BOWP can be submitted 4 months before expiry of owp provided you have aor.
3. No news from cic since my application on 21st may. Received email from cio that it is being processed through initial review

@ devpsd

Does that mean that it is not a matter of concern for us even if we have not received the "Acceptance of Receipt" or AOR from CIO?
What if the certificate expires before they generate the AOR? Would they not consider our application as late submission? :(

Just a bit paranoid.

That doesnt make sense. you have submitted it on time. As long as your application was complete and CIC received it before your expiration date, you should be okay. Its upto CIC to process them and send us AOR. If it takes them longer to process, thats their issue.
The only potential problem is that if they return the application saying it is incomplete. In that case, we might require to apply for an extension from Ontario since the clock restarts.

If that happens to me, I will simply apply under CEC instead.

Cic can take a month or more for aor. That does not mean applicant will be asked to reapply for pnp for their delay. What if the certificate expires before getting a pr. Why limit to aor. The same thing happened on the 2 year validity of passport while applying for pnp. Mine had less than 2 yr validity when pnp was in process.
@ MK if there is a missing document they ask for them and not return it all. thats what i have heard. Also as per pnp certificate; it can be renewed for special reason. I guess cic delay will be a good reason Lets not worry too much. We r not alone. There are 1000+ of them in same situation.
