Hi guys,
I'd like to ask if someone who had done an AST 2 year diploma and then proceeded to get a post graduate work permit (pgwp) , PNP, and then eventually a PR could kindly share their experience of how they went about it.
I'm seriously looking into doing an AST diploma in British Columbia (BCIT) and am worried about how easy it will be to get a job since I was warned by the program advisor that the industry is unionised and the regulatory authority (ITA) only issues certifications for Canadians and permanent residents. However, trade certification for automotive technicians is still not compulsory in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. My question is: Would I be right in saying that, as trade certification is not compulsory in these provinces, I may work there in an auto shop upon graduating legally?
For those who have done this, is it hard to find a job as an international graduate? Are there any other issues you faced while job hunting? I expect that companies would offer lower pay but if it is reasonable then if that is what it takes to get a PR then so be it.
