Hi There,

I am currently sponsoring my common-law partner, who is from the UK, for permanent residency in Canada. We are hoping that we are near the end of this process, but wanted to run something by you to see if this is true:

Our timeline, thus far, is:
May 9, 2008 - App recieved in Mississauga
June 10, 2008 - Sponsorship Approved
June 23, 2008 - Permanent Residency Application in process at CHC London, UK

Last week, on Aug 21st, we received a package from the CHC London office that was filled with our personal background documents (Birth Certificate, Personal Letters, Photographs, etc) and 2 of the passport-sized photos that we sent with the original application, but the only correspondence from the Immigration Officer was a post-it stuck to the passport photos stating "I am returning these to you so that if/when you are approved they can be sent back with your Passport to us". What does this mean? Can you help? Let me know if you need further background info.

Also, we never received a letter in the post confirming that they had begun his application, so we've been checking E-cas with my client number the whole time.... Is that normal?

Thanks so much in advance,
KJS

Not unusual not to receive an AOR with a spousal application from London. He should check his application on ecas, although it will probably just say in progress. Since there was no request for an interview, it would appear that the application is progressing normally.

Thanks very much for the response, PMM - just one more quick question: You say he should check his application on E-Cas, which we do..... But, is there a difference between what is written on MY version (We check with my client number, name and b-day) versus what it would say on HIS version (for which we do not have any reference numbers, and therefore cannot check)? Thanks again!!

Hello again,

Sorry to be a bother, the problem is that we've had NO letter from London. The package that they sent us with all of our supporting documents was not accompanied by a letter, and this was the first correspondence from them. My file shows his status as "In Process" (We began processing Mr. X's application on June 23, 2008)... Would you suggest that we contact the CHC in London to obtain his file number?

Thanks very much, again!

You can try an email, but wouldn't hold my breath as the application is within their posted processing time of 3-9 months.
All you will really see on his, that it is in process, medical received.
