hi ,

I am canadian citizen, living out of Canada, I want to sponsor my husband,

Is it possible to make health insurance for my husband who intends to reside in Canada as an immigrant ,acknowledging that I am Canadian citizen ? and I am sponsoring him.?

If yes= how can this take place ? taking into consideration we are both living currently out of Canada and we want to make health insurance before travelling
What is required from us ?

thank you

i guess it depends on what kind of insurance you are talking about. if you want government health insurance it goes by province. in ontario we have ohip. if you've been away for a while, neither you nor your husband will be eligible for that until you can prove you've been residing in canada for at least three months...

I looked into this as well (im canadian citizen and wife is in jordan waiting for PR). i was told all health insurance here is based on you having Alberta Healthcare Number (this is for alberta, but similar case might be for other provinces). So that said, i dont think your husband can have health insurance here without getting his PR first. As for you, I am not sure

If you husband is not a PR and his only status in Canada is as a "visitor", he is not eligible for provincial health care. You, as a citizen, must meet the guidelines of whatever province in which you intend to be residing, i.e. Ontario & BC - residing in that province for 3 months. You can both buy private healthcare insurance.
