Please throw light on expenses from study visa filing to cost of living there

Hi,


I am planning for Jan 2016 intake and i am lookinv inputs regardings funds, cost, expenses all.

I am quite confused as some people say you can earn well from part time jobs and some say it is hard to.

Those who have got their visa(students) , could you please tell me breakage of expenses before leaving for canada like visa filling and all other process cost, ticketing and approx cost of the things bought(utilities, apparel and all things we should purchase)
** i know that this is guessable but still want to know from you guys**


And now few more but important thing i want to know about:

-breakage of living expenses in Toronto /Vancouver, please? (i guess 800$ are sufficient, are they? ?

-am going for 1 yr pg course and will be taking oan, would it be possible for me to save some for another 1yr pg course

-where is it easy to get part time jobs (Toronto/Vancouver)

-can i earn my living expenses and few for savings?(as said by few knowns there in canada i can save huge amount from it, is it really true)

- are 2000$ sufficient to take with me?

- for gic i am going to lend money from relatives and will be returning the money as i start getting from Scotia bank in canada.(i guess i won't need the money as i will be able to earn) what do you think?



I guess that's enough for now but will ask as i get more in my minds

You should assume you will not make enough money through a part-time job to cover your expenses and that it won't be possible to save any money for the following year. Getting a job isn't necessarily easy. Some find a job quite quickly. Other people on this forum have gone months without finding work. Those who do find jobs are typically making minimum wage - which isn't very much money. It would be dangerous to assume you won't need the money from your GIC. It's quite possible you will need quite a bit of it. If you have to borrow this money and your relatives expect you to pay it back quickly - I would reconsidering coming to Canada to study.

Coming to Canada to study is something that costs money - it rarely makes you money while you are a student.

You can live in Toronto on $800/month - but it will be tight. It's an expensive city.

Big cities in canada cost too much. My cousin living in toronto whose monthly expenses are $1000-1200/month.
But small cities are low cost area. One of my friend living in London, Ontario. His expenses are around $500. Shared rooms are very affordable in small cities , $200-300. And in london ontario, fanshave college offers 1 year diplomas. Costs in windsor ontarior also less.

Vancouver is also expensive but cities near it are affordable to live. most popular city to live near vancouver is surrey. Expenses in surrey are $500-600. Most of the students studying in vancouver lives in surrey because of affordable living.

my dear friend

one of my close friend stays in toronto on student visa he is studying and working .

Depends on your life style u r going there to make ur future bright if u dont fall in glamour or show off life than u are good to go .

he spending monthly 600 cad for staying eating and all expenses covered . though he is scarificing and sharing room .. if u dont than 800

weekly he earns around 300-350 cad and for a month he earns around 1200 cad .. full time not counted i mean weekends

so it depends on person to person dont loose your confidence hard days will teach you a lot and u will learn to come up from such problems be strong and ahve faith in u .

My friend is also going to join me so i guees i will manage living expense but still i am confused whether will it be ok to pay back the gic money to my relatives or not.

Not everyone gets part time job quickly and it would be wise to have some money with you (say at least 6 months expense). This way even if it takes some time for you to get a part time job, you won't have to borrow money from your friends after coming to Canada.
I don't have experience living in Canada, but I have lived in other countries and its pretty much similar.

You should keep your GIC until you earn enough for your expenses. When that earning and your expense break-even then you can repay your relatives. So it depends on how quickly you will get a part time job that pays well.

I believe this will be your first time living independently, so life will be tough for awhile. but you will learn a lot. And the experience is worth it.

You should work hard both in school and in the part time job. Some tend to not concentrate on their grades at school and ultimately screw everything up. So keep your focus on all the time, esp. when you see that brand new smartphones from your favorite manufacturers lol.


If you can manage to fight of the urge to buy gadgets and stuff and try to live a content life, you should be able to make it through.

Oh food costs too add up and one good thing to follow is, not being hungry when you go to a mall or supermarket because when we are hungry, we tend to look for foods that is high in calorie (sugar, carbohydrate) and these are not healthy and will add up the cost. I have had personal experience with it.

But don't starve yourself either just make a habit of eating out occasionally say once in a week or when you get great scores and so on.
