Hi everyone,

Another successful criminal rehabilitation story. I will provide a timeline of my offences and important dates below. I am an Australian with a drink driving conviction. I applied for my cr by post to the Sydney Immigration centre. I applied as my partner is Canadian and I just wanted to visit her family and friends in the future.

All the best to everyone stressing out about your applications, it does eventually happen.

July 2012- Caught drink driving (licence cancelled for 12 months)
August 2013- got my licence back (with an alcohol interlock for 3 months)
December 2013- got my interlock removed
December 27th 2018- Applied for criminal rehabilitation
January 2nd 2019- Was asked for proof of fines and was confirmed they received my letter
June 1st 2019- Received my approval letter back from CIC

Peace.

Hey i noticed that you received an email about 4 months after submitting your criminal rehabilitation. I received an email after only 1 month after submitting mine. Would u think that the day you receive the email is the official day they start working on your file. And if you had to guess would you u think maybe they were further backlogged when you sent yours

The initial acknowledgement email that I received was dated the same day that I received it. And acknowledged that they received my application on xx/xx/xxxx (a few days after I dropped it in the mailbox). I assume that's the same case for you.

If I had to guess, they have probably one hundred or so applications being mailed to them every couple of weeks. That acknowledgement email is probably just letting you know that they have opened your letter (or giant envelope ). Which means they have started the process of reading through it and checking all of the sources.

I don't have a guess as to when they are more backlogged. But it is definitely a case-by-case basis. Some people are approved in one month and some people have to wait up to several years. I'd imagine that it depends a lot on the argument for you being rehabilitated as well as the individual officers that are working on your case.

Wish I could be more helpful but please ask more questions if you have any

I appreciate your response. My crimes were committed over twelve years ago and probation ended over ten years ago. I'm guessing that that would help my case. i sent every possible document that is required and then some. I wonder if some cases take longer because of missing documents or some not being so clear. It would be interesting to hear from the people who got approved rather quickly and what their situations were.

I had an attorney help me process my TRP (almost identical to the CR application) and according to him, missing documents can really lengthen the process. He told me that the biggest factors are: missing docs, what you've done to change since then, and how you can benefit Canada by being admissible.

It sounds to me like you're in a really good position! The waiting game is tough though. Hang in there!

Ya i assume i sent everything. Its been over a month and they haven't asked for additional items. And I've definitely changed since then. Financially and criminally. The reasons i want to visit canada are recreational, site seeing, ect. I live about 15 minutes from the border also. You think that would Benefit canada.

Hello Members,

I admire the work and sharing that is been going in this form. I had a DUI in Kentucky USA on Sep, 2014. My sentence disposed on September 24th by 45 days license suspension with a nominal fine and referral to 16hr alcohol program. I am currently living in India.
I have few questions, hope someone can shed light on my situation.

I planned to apply for PR through EE in 2018, knowing that DUI on my record hired a Canadian immigration attorney. they advised me that since 5 years is not elapsed, only option left for me is to go through PR along with TRP. and they passed time until now by asking each document at a time rather all documents at a time( FBI clearance onetime , employment documents onetime, reference letters one time finally now state records onetime). Since I am applying from India to get above mentioned documents took hell lot of time. Now I have all the documents with me.

Since my 5 year period for CR is almost getting elapsed, I am thinking to apply CR and PR together rather TRP and PR.
I have few questions to proceed further.

I submitted my PR EE profile and waiting for an ITA. Hoping will get an ITA in a month or so(based on my score). Once I get my ITA

Should I apply both CR and PR after September?? or Should I submit CR a little advance ( 3 months) I heard its taking 9-12 months for processing??

Thanks a lot.

Hi everyone,

I just submitted my CR application last week! Sent it to the one in Ottawa. I’ll let you know how it goes. Is there anyone else who applied from within Canada who is currently waiting?

Exactly how long does this process take, 6-12 months or 12-18 months?

Was the reply an approval?
Unfortunately not. It was rejected. Had to go through the judicial review route. Which was approved. Right now I’m in the redetermination phase. So let’s see if the approve the CR this time or reject it again.

Wish you all the best. Mine was applied for in June 2018, still waiting for a decision.
