Hello guys,

Sooooooo conflicted right now, please help!!! I am in Canada on a work permit, which expires in 11 month. My common-law partner is sponsoring me for PR, and even though we live together in Canada, originally we thought to do outland. But now that I only have 11 month left, what would happen if they dont process it outland before my work permit expires? Can it be extended? Or is outland should be processed faster than 11 month? Should i just do inland, but than I cant leave Canada even for vacation, and will wait twice as long?

So torn right now...

You can apply inland and apply for an Open Work Permit with the inland application which would take 3-5 months to be approved. You can't get a work permit on an outland application.
Both inland and outland applications are giving estimated wait times of 12 months right now from CIC. Although there are many reports of outland applications being finalized in 6-8 months.
You might be able to get away with leaving Canada on an inland application if it's for a very short time, but you just take the risk of not being allowed back in and your application being abandoned. But many others have done it.

Thank you for responding! So would you think it's safer to apply inland? why i am so concerned, is because I am not allowed to fully work in my field until I have a PR ( i work in film and everything is union there), so the faster I get the PR, the faster I can start fully working. But now I am afraid my PGWP will expire and yeah...Literally not sending my application cause cant decide, feeling so frustrated right now

Well since you've already got 11 months of a work visa left, if it was me, I'd just submit the application as Outland now and hope it was done in time since that will likely be faster than inland as long as you've done everything correctly. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what would happen if it's not finalized in time and your PGWP expires so hopefully someone else can answer this. Possibly the worst case scenario would be that you have to go back to your home country for a month or two and wait for the approval and then move back? Might not be so bad but it depends on your situation of course.
