Hi .. I am a student from India. I have just completed my B.tech(cse) in 2012 and planning to do my PG Diploma in Canada for September 2013.
I have been in touch with many consultants here who are asking me to pay 1st whole year fees to the college to apply for visa as they are saying this is the new role issued by Canada embassy. What I feel is Consultants here are asking me to pay the fees for whole year because i presume they must be getting some profit from it.
I am interested in Humber college(Ontario) and consulted with their agents and they are saying that i can pay minimal fees of 1 semester. Can anyone confirm this if i can pay 1 semester fees and on the basis of that receipt if i will be able to apply for my Visa to Canada. I have searched on official sites but it says that they requires tuition fees (not mentioned if 1 semester or whole year). Please guys help me if i can pay minimal fees of 1 semester and apply for Visa. thanks in advance

Hi,

Humber college is a participating educaitonal institue under SPP India.

Hence, you have two choices to apply for visa with an admission in Humber college programme:

1. SPP (once in lifetime chance, lesser paper work, possibly faster proocessing time and cannot apply again if any study visa attempt previously rejected and hence highly reccomended to 1st apply under SPP).
2. Generic/General category

Now if you see the offical SPP visa checklist: (http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/pdf/Student_Partners_Program_09022013.pdf)

It's clearly written that you need to show:

1. Copy of receipts for tuition payment provided by the SPP institution.
(It's not mentioned clearly that the tuition fees to be paid- is for 1 term or 1 academic year.. however, they have mentioned - receipts(plural), most probably implying more than1 term i.e 2 terms or 1 full acadmeic year... but not compulsory).

2. You MUST demonstrate the purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution, in the amount of $10,000 CAD to cover living expenses for your first year in Canada.

Under General catrgory: (http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/pdf/study_permit_20-09-2012.pdf)

It's written:

1. you can fulfill the financial requirement by submitting a copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to ateast first year's tuition plus $10 000 CAD to cover living and travel expenses for one year.
2. Copy of receipts for payment provided by the University (pre-payment of first term is strongly recommended)

It is not compulsory to pay the 1 year tuition fees. However, some consultant advice students to pay because of bringing the chances of getting your visa higher. 1 year paid = less work => better for Canada.
So don't worry and pay 1 sem if you are having problem with 1 year.

the consultants get paid for the commission by the college on paying student upfront fee to colleges that's why he is insisting otherwise there is no such policy by Canada High Commission.............even if you pay less money for one semester i dont think so there might be any prob..............what you need is an acceptance letter from the college/ Uni
