please help us! going to jamaica next week, husband's PR card is expired.

I am a Canadian and my husband is an American. We just realized that his PR card expired in June 2011 and we have travel plans for Jamaica next week. We were told that we have to go to Kingston, Jamaica to get a travel document. Has anyone done this before? We are going to be in Ocho, so it's a bit of a trek and not sure if Kingston is safe? What documents do we need to bring with us in order for him to get the travel document.

IF he doesn't get the travel document, is there any way that they will still let him on the plane???

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting nowhere.

With a US passport he would be let in on the plane... and he would be able to get into Canada as well. Once he is back in Canada, he can file to renew his PR Card.

Not that I'm doubting what you are saying, but are you sure about this? He can board the plane and cross the border into Canada without a PR card? If so, this is the best news and I can stop my worrying!

Yup. If you have a US passport or US Green card you are allowed into Canada without a visa. At the Jamaican end, that's all they care about.

Once you get to Canada just hand in your US passport and expired Canadian PR. It is possible that they would be upset that your card is expired but they will still let you in and probably just advice you to go renew it immediately. An upfront explanation about the oversight would help.

I am assuming you meet the residency obligations of 730 days within the last 5 years.
