How difficult is it for a mediocre student who studied at BTech CS at SRM, having no in-depth knowledge of the subject (still don’t know how to code), to cope with a master’s program in CS at the University of Ottawa?

I got into the program because of my academic credentials (Like projects I did with some bright students and my marks got me into it). But even with such good scores (90 - 95% in core subjects), I barely even remember what I learnt. Now that I got into the program, I’m willing to work hard to actually learn the subject in-depth.

The problem, speaking realistically, I’m scared that I’ll fail in the exams there.. that I’ll waste my money and won’t secure the degree because a master’s in cs definitely cannot be taken lightly. Some events that happened in my life made me lose interest in studies and turned me into a weak person with low confidence and self-esteem. Should I just start focusing on it and give it a shot or should I request the university for deferral until winter 2020 (which I believe they won’t grant)? I don’t want to give up this opportunity but I’m really scared.

Any help in how I can start studying and improve myself relevant to this program?

Please don’t judge me saying that I have to follow my passion because at this point I don’t know what to do anymore...instead give me some helpful information or experiences. It’s a really stressful situation for me.

Thanks to anybody who’ll help me. It’s really urgent for me.

This is not a severe problem. In fact this is the most common problem for more than half of the engineering graduates. What you should do now is just be thankful that you've been admitted to the university and start afresh. When you enroll into classes try to make connections and learn from your classmates. No one will ask you what do you remember. Although basic knowledge about the subject is necessary but I guess there's plenty of time left for you to join the university. So I suggest you to spend your free time in learning what you think you've missed and watch videos or surf the web to have an in-depth knowledge. I am saying this only because I've felt the same at the beginning of my Engineering studies (different stream than yours) and I brought myself back from that situation. If you make your present better no one will ask about your past. Hope this helps!! and Congrats for your approval to the U of Ottawa!! Best of Luck!!
