Hey, I graduate from English and New Media majors and I'm about to apply CEC next month. I have few questions about my job title.

My last job was newspaper journalist, which lasted for 9 months. My current job is very hard to define, however my boss just used "administrative assistant" in my job offer. The company is an immigration company. It helps Chinese applicants with their PNP, CEC and FSW applications. My job is mainly about marketing, new media advertising and sometime public relations.

My concern is:
1. The company provides immigration services, does that affect my application? Does it seems more "suspicious" to the visa officer?

2. My wage starts from $10.50/hr, and my boss said it may go up to $12 this month but no guarantee. I'm aware that CEC doesn't have a strict line for wage, but is it way too low for NOC 1123? Or should I just go for 1241 (administrative assistant) ?

3. Do I belong to NOC 1123? If so, what is my job title? I'm thinking public relations co-ordinator or marketing co-ordinator. Is the wage ok for that title?

1123 Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations

This unit group includes specialists in advertising, marketing and public relations who analyse, develop and implement communication and promotion strategies and information programs, analyse advertising needs and develop appropriate advertising and marketing plans, publicize activities and events, and maintain media relations on behalf of businesses, governments and other organizations, and for performers, athletes, writers and other talented individuals. They are employed by consulting firms, advertising agencies, corporations, associations, government, social agencies, museums, galleries, public interest groups, and cultural and other organizations, or they may be self-employed. Agents such as entertainment, literary and sports agents are included in this unit group.

Here are my main job duties:
• develop new clients by phone and internet
• design the website of the company for marketing purpose
• design and implement other company documents such as letterhead and business card with photoshop
• prepare media kit material and develop new market with it (mostly oversea market)
• use social media tools and knowledge to promote company's new services and deals (like facebook, twitter and other social networking sites)
• develop local partnership by phone, and build good relationship between two companies
• gather and research latest immigration material for external audiences
• prepare reports, briefs, presentations and web sites release
• contact local media and other social groups for advertising and promotion purpose

I got 7.5 on IETLS so language test is not a prob for me. And my boss is ok with both title (NOC 1241 OR NOC 1123).

Please help me, I feel like 1123 is true and make more sense in terms of my past work experience and my academic background. however the wage is the only big concern. So which one makes more sense overall in my case?

Thanks for finish reading this looooooooooooong page. Thank you sooooooooooooo much. ;) ;) ;)

It shouldn't be an issue, unless the company has had problems in the past...

2. My wage starts from $10.50/hr, and my boss said it may go up to $12 this month but no guarantee. I'm aware that CEC doesn't have a strict line for wage, but is it way too low for NOC 1123?

It's low, but if you were hired on a PGWP, it'll probably be OK.

NOC 1123 appears to be a good fit, although you should make sure you put them in order of most important to least important (in terms of the amount of time you spend on them). The first duty, develop new clients, is more "sales" and doesn't really fit, so you should consider if that should be at the top or not.

Your job title is that which your employer designates. If your employer says you are an admin assistant, that's your job title. You have to select the NOC that best matches your job duties, not your title (though obviously, they should be related).

If your employer supports this (and is willing to write it in the Letter of Reference, you could write your job title as "Administrative Assistant (Communications)" ( or (Public Relations) or (Marketing)).

Thanks a alot!!!
This is a small company that only has 6 people, so my employer doesnt really know what the right "title“ is. I have to do the research and she will be happy to assist me..
My other question is, for a small company like this, should I use Media Co-ordinator or specialist? I'm really confused which one is the higher one.

Thx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
