I am a current Grad student in my final year. My course will finish in May 31st 2018 but my visa is valid till March 31st 2018.

Why the Immigration didn't approve my permit till the course completion date? Is it because I made a SOP where I wrote, that I would go back to my home country after my program in Canada? Does that mean I can't get PGWP?
I am afraid, I need more time to finish my program and I would like to apply for PGWP. How do I proceed?
Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated!

You are overthinking. You just need to apply to extend your study permit. Then when you finish your studies you can apply for PGWP. What you wrote in the SOP is irrelevant. Good luck!

Hey thank you for your advice!
Even if I applied for extension will they extend it beyond my course completion date?
31st of May I am finishing my program and if they extend it till 31st of May, I can't legally apply for PGWP. Can I? According to CIC, I must apply for PGWP within 90 days of finishing the program and I must hold a valid visa then.

Please help:(

Yes there will be some buffer. Your study permit won't end right on the same day. There will be enough time on the study permit that will let you apply for PGWP. They do also consider the processing time of WP. Don't worry you will be fine. Good Luck!!

On cic.gc.ca, following is the processing times showing for study permit extension:

Study permit extension
These applications can be submitted online or by paper.
Online : 30 days , Working on applications received on November 7, 2017.
Paper : 116 days, Working on applications received on August 13, 2017.

So based on the above timeline, I would suggest apply online around 15 February. So, 30 days will end on 15th March. In case, something goes wrong in the application like you have missed some document or they need something additional or you applied in wrong category -- many possible reasons -- just to avoid last minute stress do it 15 Feb.. then after 15 March you will still have 15 days to reapply if required. Also, keep on checking the cic.gc.ca for processing times. If it increases make sure you adjust your application submission date accordingly. For example, if the online application processing time changes to 40 days then submit your application in first week of feb. I would suggest online application rather than paper application. There is more risk involved in paper application, also it takes way too long.

Hope this information will help.

Hi , do we have to again write an SOP for the study permit extension for studying another year post graduate diploma and mention that we have strong ties and plan to go back besides how it would enhance the program that I am currently studying in Canada as we had done for the first year program application for the study permit .thanks
