Hi

My name is Mohammed .I came to canada on study permit on 27th April 2011.I completed my studies and graduated on 27th April 2012.I applied for Post Graduated Work Permit on 21st June 2012 and got work permit from 27th July 2012 to 27th july 2013(1 year)

I started my job on 17th June 2012 as Kitchen DesignerNOCB on offcampus wp full time as i was graduated and you can work full time in breaks or after graduation on off campus and my one year will get completed on 17th june 2013.I want to apply for Permanent residence under Canadian Experiance Class.I called CIC about knowing my eligibility and they told me that one year will get counted from day you recieved your post Graduated WorkPermit not from the day you started job.

As per CIC Website:
Note: Any periods of self-employment, unauthorized work, or periods of employment during which you were engaged in full-time study (e.g. work experience gained on a co-op, off-campus or on-campus work permit) will not be included when calculating the period of qualifying work experience. You must have had temporary resident status during the period of work experience acquired in Canada.

I started my job on 17th june 2012 and at that time i was not full time student graduated worked legally on offcampus so i want to know why that experiance willnot count or on 21st june 2012 i applied for Post Graduated Work permit and while waiting for that i was doing job so why that period will not count.

Please clearify this and mail me back as i have to apply my permanent residency under Canadian Experiance Class and has to apply for Bridge Open Work Permit as my PGWP ending on 27th july 2013.I donot know how to get 1 or 2 months extension as my employer is not willing to file LMO.

Thanks
Mohammed

When was your graduation ceremony / date your diploma was issued?

Officially the rules state that your experience only counts when you're no longer a full-time student. The common opinion around here is to use the date of the issuance of your PGWP or the date of your Diploma Issuance (whichever is later). I can't say for certain, but I think you will have a high risk of rejection if applying before July 27th, 2013, assuming you work the full year of your PGWP issuance. Based on other folks experiences, the period between when you started work and the PGWP issuance may not be counted. If your graduation or diploma date was earlier, then you may be able to claim this as your eligibility start date.

At the very least, I would ensure you keep your job until July 27th, 2013, as you do not need to be in Canada to apply for the CEC class. You can still apply if you have to return to your home country.

I got confirmation from CIC officer that i can apply for my PR on 18th june 2013.They confirm that experiance taken on offcampus after graduation date will count.

New OP25A STATES:

Any period of employment during which the applicant was engaged in full-time study will not be included in calculating the period of qualifying work experience (e.g. work experience gained through co-op work permits, off-campus work permits while a full-time student, and on-campus work permits).

off campus while a full time student- check that

I was graduated and not full time student so i can apply on 18th june 2013.Its 100% confirmed and you can also apply.I called CIC and they confirmed with Nova Scotia office.

Please call CIC customer care and asked them to confirm for you. You will sure get answer as they got this confirmed last week.

Just so that you are aware, the call centres are not staffed by CIC officers and have been known to provide inconsistent and incorrect information in the past. The person you spoke to is not assessing your application, so just take that into account while considering anything "100%" confirmed.

I completely agree with Seton. You should go with the convocation date or the PGWP date, whichever is latest.

The last thing you want is to wait for 10 months and receive a rejection when this is completely in your control.

As you know its simply says that off campus experience will not count , Gradation which is usually in June or PGWP or which ever is later so you need to count your hours after that date i guess

Mohammed,

If you even apply on June 18th, you will have to allow at least 6 weeks, before getting AOR and applying for BOWP -- which is close to or beyond validity of you PGWP. There is a post at this forum, where guys described how they applied for BOWP by applying first for visitor and then recovering status of worker -- as you imagine, it is also risky and non that reliable. Moreover, your employer might not consider such transition of your status acceptable.

Completely agree on both opinions of this post, and still wonder what means this "off campus while a full time student"? Is there any chance to get official confirmation of that definition?

Dear mohd000

Can you please let me know to whom & how did you contact to understand your eligibility. Even i would want to speak with someone to know when do i become eligible

I think everyone with 1-year PGWP would like to clarify this eligibility on official level. Such ones cannot compromise BETWEEN leaving for home country with losing job and waiting for a year OR getting bridge permit, going on to work and getting more experience.

truly need clarification here for 1yr pgwp holder.
