(Please help) Question about “medical exam” for Study permit renewal

Hi there,

Need to help my family who is currently studying high school in Canada, to renewal the study permit. He applied it in Nov 2022, entered Canada in Nov 2023, has attended to 2 semester high school courses in Canada and permit expired in April 2024.

Wondering if “medical exam” is necessary? As the previous medical test was done in 2022 Nov. When I checked the list, I clicked on NO for medical exam in the last 12 months, and then it required for medial exam.

but some people said No for medical exam for study permit renewal. Please help!!

but I am not sure if I do require to do the medical exam right now for the Study permit renewal, or just wait till CIC asks for it? I am not sure if it is a must for medical exam for visa renewal, or they just randomly requires for.

Based on your post did you not get a request for a medical already? If not I would wait and see if you get a request for a medical and if so do the medical.

It is the first time for the study permit renewal.

He did the medical exam before applying for the SP and coming to Canada.

According to the question:


A medical exam is needed before you submit your application for foreign nationals who:

• want to stay in Canada for more than 6 months and have lived in one or more designated countries or territories for more than six months in the past year or;
• intend to work in one of the following jobs:
  • health sciences worker
  • clinical laboratory worker
  • patient attendant in nursing or geriatric homes
  • medical student admitted to Canada to attend university
  • medical elective and physician on short term assignment
  • teacher of primary or secondary schools or other teachers of small children
  • domestics worker, someone who gives in-home care to children, the elderly and the disabled
  • day nursery worker

Do you fit into one of these categories?


I suppose the answer should be NO!? As he has already stayed in Canada for 10 months long, and currently in Canada.
If I answer yes, then YES medical test is required.

I am looking for a right answer and do the right thing.
