Hello,

I have been studying in an English language school in Canada for almost 6 months. I have got a study permit document and an S1 type VISA in my passport (my country is VISA required country). My study permit duration is 6 months (same as English Language School date ), my passport VISA duration is 1 year. Now I have an acceptance of a university and my aim is to extend study permit. However, I am not sure that I also need to apply for a student visa separately.

In addition to this, I have a spouse with me and he has a touristic VISA of which duration is 10 years. He will apply for an open work permit. Should he also apply for a worker visa or not?

Namely, even though we apply for study and work permit, do we still need to student or work visa to enter and leave Canada?

Thank you in advance.

Visa/TRV can continue to be used as long as it is valid, it is the same TRV regardless of what it says on it study, work, visit doesnt matter it is your status that matters, your permit gives you status.
Also note that visitor status is for maximum 6 months at a time in Canada.

Thank you for your reply, when my spouse gets the open work permit, is he need to apply VISA again? or he will be dependent to me? I mean his time duration automatically increase with our application?

The issue here if I am correct is whether your spouse need TRV after securing open work permit. An OPEN WORK PERMIT is a proof of your immigration status in Canada. It does not authorize your re-entry to Canada if you decide to travel. This means if your spouse intends to travel outside Canada he will surely need a valid VISA to enable him return or report to CBSA. I believe each foreign national in Canada who has attained the age of majority (18+) is independent. Therefore, your spouse cannot depend on your status. Each application is process based on merit or independently. I hope this help.
