Hi All,

I have done something worst anyone could imagine. I lost my Passport and COPR.

Last time I saw it was the day when I got my COPR by doing the landing formalities. I had kept it in a small bag. I have searched the entire house but in vain. I feel ashamed of this.

I read someone's post in the forum that I need to lodge a police complaint first, then visit Indian Consulate and so on. In the Indian Consulate site it says I need to produce
"Proof of legal stay permission in Canada." Currently I am waiting for PR card from CIC and thats the only proof I will have once it comes. Until then the only documents I have are my DL, Address proof, and some other bills having the address. Are these good enough for now?

Also, please let me know how are the policeman here in Toronto. I am so tensed and my mind isnt working properly.

For another COPR do we need Police complaint too. Or can I apply it right away?

If anyone had similar experience please share.

Thanks in advance

You will not be able to obtain another COPR document. You will have to apply for a Verification of Status instead. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certcopy.asp

It's all you can get... So, it will have to suffice.
Note: The actual document itself will not be issued, instead a plain paper document will be issued that will provide information about your immigration history.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I am in Toronto. I had been to the Police station and I got a police report number in 10 minutes. Police here are very courteous.

Next I will have to find a lawyer who can provide an affidavit which I have to submit to my consulate.

I will update you all about the progress so that it will help someone else in future.

Why you can't wait to receive your PR card and with it you go to your Indian Consulate?

Sorry I couldn't post earlier.

@neutral - you are right I should have waited until I got my PR card. I had been to Indian Consulate last week after they had received the Fax report from Police about my complaint, with copy of my passport, Application forms, Sworn Affidavit from Notary but with no proof for PR status. Hence, my application was not considered. I got my PR card today and I will visit the Indian Consulate tomorrow and let you all know what happens.

I had been to the Indian Consulate this week with PR card and copy of it. They verified all my documents and asked me to submit the application in BLS Toronto center located in Lawrence East. I submitted the applications and paid a fee of 311 CAD :( comprising passport booklet charges and shipping fee (140 CAD) lost passport fee (171 CAD).

I told the lady in the counter not to charge for shipping and I would come and collect it in person. She told me that during collection time office will be busy and I will have to wait for long hours. I told her am fine with waiting and kept on requesting her but she kept on saying the same thing. I realized that this is another way of making money and decided not to request anymore as she was not willing to accept my request. She gave me a tracking number and told me that the passport would arrive through Fedex in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed!!!!

Now, I have to apply for verification of status as I had lost my COPR too. I am planning to shift my house and I would like to know from experts here, if it is better to wait until I move to a new home before applying for verification of status. The reason why I ask this is because my PR card was sent to my wife's old address (address on file as PR application was filed here) though I gave the mailing address as my current address at the time of landing formalities and the officer confirmed that it will be sent to my current address - which didn't happen.

Urgent Help Needed:

Hi Everyone,

I have got the worst luck of all. My CoPR and Visa Stamped passport got stolen from my mailbox. I didn't even have a chance to look at the envelope. Someone stole it from my Unit's mailbox and now it's gone. I have the police report now and going to get a new passport in few days.

I am worried about getting a copy of CoPR and Visa Stamp again. I called CIC and they said contact Ottawa directly. It's been 24 hours since I emailed them but no luck yet. Can anyone in their wildest imagination can help me here? Am I even safe here? Can I get a new CoPR and Visa Stamp on my new passport?

I don't understand what you are asking. You only have one option... Contact CIC and request a new COPR. And don't expect a reply from them in 24 hours. You would be lucky if they answered you within a month.
