Please help me in my Canada Child Tax Benefit

Hi,
I landed in Toronto nov 2008. Since then I am living and working outside Canada. Since my profession is a Doctor, I have to clear some exams before becoming elgible to work in Canada. By God's grace I am almost done and only few months left to finish the last exam.
I have not applied yet for CCTB thinking that I am not living and working in Canada. Did I commit a mistake by doing so?? Am I supposed to apply. If this is the case can I apply from the period I landed in Canada i.e almost 18 months??
I appreciate your help in answering my questions

As you are not residing in Canada nor paying taxes you can't apply for CCTB

Thank you for your reply. If I pay taxes based on my income outside Canada, Can I still get the child tax benefit if I am living with my kids outside Canada?

No, you & your children must reside in Canada in order to receive CCTB
