Hey everyone,
I'm from the Caribbean but I hold Danish citizenship. I'm going into my second year of radio broadcasting at Algonquin College. When I graduate next year, I'd like to stay in Canada. Here's what I know about the CEC (please correct me if I'm wrong)
- When I graduate, I can get a 3 year post-grad work permit. In those 3 years, I have to hold a job for a total of 1 year.
- The job has to be at a certain level.
- I must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to qualify for "full-time" status.
I've been doing some volunteer work with a marketing company here in Ottawa and they're willing to hire me on as a Production Manager next year when I graduate. I'll be given no less than 30 hours per week. Will this be enough to qualify for Permanent Residency? I understand that I'll need a letter from my employer as well. What must that letter contain?
If I graduate in 2015 and work from the moment I graduate for one full-time year, can I apply for PR before my post-grad work permit expires? I would think so - but I'd like to make sure.
Thank you so much for your time. This has really kept me up at night for a while and I've considered hiring a lawyer, but the financial situation isn't that ideal at the moment.
Thanks again,
Nick
