Hi there,

I need some advise from you guys. I'm a live-in caregiver and I've been working here almost 2 years. Next step I have to apply my PR and open work permit. I was wondering if I should apply for my common-law who is holding a visitor visa status in Canada at the same time? Can I do that ? If the answer is YES !!! Does she has to fill in the application form by her self (pay separately) or use my application (pay for 2 people) and just send all the document that they need. (Ex. Proof of relation etc.)

Thank you in advance.

You should post your question in the Foreign Workers section of this forum.

If you truly have "12 consecutive months of cohabitation", it's not a matter of "you should", rather "you MUST" put your common-law partner on your application. If you don't declare your partner now, she will forever be excluded from being sponsored under the Family Class. Sorry I can't answer your question about payment.

I think your question belongs here in this category as it's more of a common-law/spousal sponsorship question than a "you applying for PR" question.

Just to confirm, if you are a live-in caregiver that means you are living in the home of your employer, correct?

So is your partner also living in the same home as your employer on their visitor visa for the past 12 consecutive months? That would be the only way you can include them as common-law partner on your PR application.
