Hello everyone,

  1. I moved to Canada on Feb 28th, 2018 on work permit.
  2. I was in India on vacation for 45 days from October to November 2018.
  3. I got my PR on 5th April, 2019.
  4. I was in India on vacation for 40 days from November to December 2019.
  5. I was in Canada for the entire year of 2020.
  6. I was in India from 9th April 2021 to 16th July 2021.
  7. Then had to travel to US on 9th October due to career change.
I haven't been back in Canada since then. I have my PR status till August 2024. I don't want to lose my PR status but I don't think I'll be moving back to Canada in short term.
There's a chance that I will move back towards the end of next year.
My question is, does my time spend on work permit count towards PR RO? I think it does for citizenship application. But does it count towards PR renewal?

Thanks in advance!

No - your time spent on a work permit does not count towards PR RO. Only time after you became a PR.

It counts towards citizenship with half day credits for each full day you spent in Canada pre-PR up to a year credit.

Your PR card expires in August 2024 not your PR status. You must meet the RO in 5 years from your landing date (so by April 2024) to be compliant with your RO. Expiry date of your PR card is independent from RO.

It depends on you if you want to play smart keep the Job in US and work remotely from Canada like many IT/Finance people do.
