Hi guys,

I have an urgent question. I started working last year on July 21st. Do I have to wait until July 20th this year to get into the pool or until this June. Because we normally count 2015.7-2016.6 as one year, right? How does CIC count in this case?

Really appreciate if someone could advise!

As per CIC requirement, you need to have minimum 12 months (30 hours per week for 12 months which is 1560 hours) of experience in NOC skill type 0, A or B. So, in your case, 12 months will complete only on July 20th and you will have to wait till then.

Re: Please HELP- length of work experience question

Thank you so much Stanlee! But I'm full-time, working 40 hours per week, 2080 hours per year. Does it mean CIC only counts 12 months instead of hours?

How disappointing! :(

For full time work experience CIC calculates 30 hours as the standard, anything above 30 hours will not be considered to arrive at 1560 figure.

Yes, it is disappointing, but all of us need to adhere to the guidelines.

Re: Please HELP- length of work experience question

Thanks so much for clarifying!

I just used Comprehensive Ranking System on CIC website and found out, if all other answers remain the same, one year work experience has the same score as two year's! Is that true, Stanlee? Why doesn't one more year of experience matter to CIC? I actually started working on July 21st, 2014 (saying last year was just an example), it means I could apply right now as one year or two years makes no difference to me now.

Still need your confirmation about this! Thanks a million!!

Yes, you are correct with regard to foreign work experience. But if you have Canadian work experience in addition to foreign work experience, it is not true, check the points mentioned under Skill Transferability Factors at the end of this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp#a1

Checked the link and already into the pool. Thanks!

When I registered, Under WORK HISTORY-OCCUPATION, it asks

Date (my name) first became qualified to practice in this occupation
If the "primary occupation" is:
a qualified trade (four-digit code begins with 632, 633, 72, 73, 82, 92), this is the date they became qualified to practice on their own in Canada. (For example, when they moved from apprentice to being a licensed tradesperson.)
any other job, this is the date they first obtained the minimum education or training stated in the NOC description. (Note: if the NOC only states high school, this is the date they graduated.)

Does it mean the date I graduated and got the degree OR the date I started working full time?

The date you graduated i.e. When You become eligible to work for your noc. Ircc won't count any exp. prior to this date.
