MSc is research based program. In this you will need a supervisor who will assist you with your thesis and research throughout the course. For this to happen, you will need to contact a faculty member who has similar research interest that you want to do at the university. You should convince him how you shall be a good candidate for him. You might also receive funding from your supervisor

exactly when should i contact the faculty members asking them to become my advisor?
how important it is for securing the admission?
I today mailed all faculty members (who are related to the fields in which i m interested)

the university of calgary had also sent me a survey form , asking my field of interest for specialization.....

Its very important to get an advisor for securing admission to MSc. Immediately you should mail the professors. Even if you don't secure an advisor, you have fair bit of chance as after applying your application will be distributed among the faculty members who have similar research interest as yours. If they are satisfied, they will recommend being our advisor.

can you kindly guide me what exactly should i mail them(Faculty members) ? I have interest in thermo-fluids, energy systems and combustion?

Off course..you need to tell them why you want to study this particular program and what interest are there....its simple......

Write ur goals in this field and how you can contribute. Write your strengths in terms of academics. Attach your CV and Transcripts if possible just in case they want to have a look at them

k bro i will soon write an email to the concerned faculty members.....
by the way if anyone has written an email to secure a supervisor, kindly share it .....i will just draw a rough sketch.

SHAHBAZ you are a NUSTIAN ..... there are plenty of teachers with foreign qualification..they have done their PHD ,Masters outside Pakistan.....seek their help..ask them SIR/MADAM how you convince your supervisor....and they will guide you thoroughly...its the best option....because they are experienced people with same things they have done before....best of luck...

yes its a good advice. most of our faculty members have done their Masters and PHD from USA.
