I am literally getting confused between MBA from middle tier Univ like Univ of Victoria, Univ of Windsor, TRU, Sobey School of Business-Saint Marey, Ryerson

and

Masters of Global Management/Engg Management/masters of management from - Royal Roads, Windsor, Ottawa and Univ of Ontario Institute of Tech

I have 2.5 years of Work Exp in IT Industry.

Note: I am not sure whether 2 Months is sufficient to prepare for GMAT and crack it

Please reply whether I should go for GMAT and MBA OR should I pursue Masters courses above as I am not sure whether these Master programs are famous among Canadian Employers or not

Hey,

Why chase a degree in Management with only 2.5 years of technical working experience unless you function in a management role presently. Because in the engineering field often its required to have about 5-7 years cognate experience to go into management. you can check Job adverts for engineering/IT manager roles if in doubt.

Suggest you rather go for a more technical course of study in the IT/Engineering Field. Well, just my personal opinion.

regards
David

@ Dav1do

Here are the reasons for not choosing Technical Degree

1> Not interested in pursing PhD later further down the line so Research based Masters are cut down

2> Even for a Course based masters like M.Engg - I have limited option like M.Engg in Electrical and Compute Engg - X as I dont want deal with Electronics related Subjects then

M.Engg in Comp Science and S/w Engg - X as I have never been into Coding and Programming + My B.tech was in Electronics so I might be end up in doing Comp Core subjects- Prerequisite courses beforehand which would take my money and extra time

When I checked the Course Modules, Programming/Coding is present alongwith those Subjects which are neither related to my B.Tech and nor related to my Current Profile of SAP Functional Consultant/Functional Test Engineer in IT sector

Therefore, Only Option left for me is Master of Engg Mngt/Global Mngt etc OR MBA ( from Middle tier Univ )

Note: I am getting good courses as per my Profile in Australia

Okay, I am not bragging here or showing off, I am simply going to state a fact...I prepared for GMAT for just ONE night and I ended up getting a score of 610 with 91% in the analytical writing assessment section. And, the interesting part is that although my English is somewhat better than an average Indian, I absolutely suck in Mathematics. GMAT is such an easy test to crack, I do not know what the big fuss is about! By the way, I would recommend you doing an MBA than a normal Masters degree in Management, as long as you can afford it because MBA would be costlier. Also, business degrees at graduate level tend to be more theoretical in nature whereas an MBA focuses on the practical side of things. So, make your decision based on these factors, not GMAT!!!

@ Ameet,
Congrats for ur score !!

Is there any specific reasons why you are not suggesting Masters enlisted above ( In Management like Engg mngt, Global mngt ) ??? I want your Inputs

Other than that, I can not afford Top notch Univ even with good GMAT Score and that is why I specifically mentioned the Univ ( middle tier ) according to my Budget of 23 lac ( Entire tuition + 1 year of Living ) max.

Is it worth to apply in these Universities or not ??

Whatever the theoretical approach or practical, the Ultimate thing is getting placed with handsome Package and then PR gradually.

Yes, I know that getting a Job based on your networking skills, luck blah blah but before applying for any Course, prospects and credibility of the Program must be considered in that Country.

I am not getting the Proper IT related course based on my profile in CN (unlike Australia ) and that is why left with either MBA (with GMAT ) or Masters in mngt related courses

The whole point of discussing practical vs theoretical was that MBA degrees tend to be more practical than theoretical and if it's the money and job prospects you are after, instead of future teaching aspirations or PhD, then obviously you should go for an MBA instead of a Masters degree in Management...it's just that simple in my opinion. Good luck.

By the way, I myself am studying an MSc in Management from Lakehead University in Ontario (tuition fees is $17k) so it's much cheaper than even your budget! And guess what, I already have an MA degree in International Business from a University in the UK. My primary aim to study in Canada was to become a PR and a regular Masters degree is cheaper than an MBA and works just the same for residency purposes, so my choice was clear. As for you, like I said, if you CAN afford an MBA, go for it, if not then doing a Masters is not a bad option AT ALL. I agree that choice of the University matters but my experience of having worked and studies in UK is that in Western countries, it's your work experience and practical knowledge that counts much more than your degree. Also, I would not recommend Royal roads to you. Hey, why don't you check out McMaster University?? It's one of the best in Ontario and is still one of the most economical places to study. The tuition for MBA in my own University is just $23k and the faculty is pretty good, so is the campus.

as far my view point i think for mba States is a better place than canada.....
Cracking gmat is nt that tough even though i havent given this test i feel its upto the one who is actually going to give the test how much practice he needs...so u can crack it even in a night's study..
i ll suggest instead of mba in canada opt for some masters of ur previous study or go for diploma...after that get a work permit be a canadian n move to usa for mba.....
