The minister of immigration feels sad that he is away from his family during the Islamic holiday and celebration of Eid. Yet the sponsorship process keeps family apart for many Eids, Christmas, child births, child birthdays etc. Please go comment on his facebook post wishing him Eid Mubarak and then writing your concerns and frustrations about the immigration process and how they are breaking the 12 month promise and keeping families apart.

I understand your concern, but in your case, big reason for your delay is you didn't get the correct police certificate, plus you forgot to submit a form and had your app returned. Also your file hasn't even reached a year yet.

Furthermore, people from certain countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc will take longer than others due to obvious security concerns and lack of integrity of documents, hence that's why applicants from Pakistan for example, require originals of their documents and not photocopies

Thanks for your reply. They are many Afghans that passed the 12 month barrier my post was speaking for them and not much for myself. CIC needs to fix the following issues:

1. Linking application: This forum is full of examples of how people cannot link their applications. It continues to happen. As a Canadian Citizen and having some knowlege in IT, it still was a puzzle to put together and get your application to link. Nowhere else, have I faced such a puzzle.

2. CIC processing officer cannot tell the difference from a Pakistan ‘s National Database and Registry (NADRA) and Afghanistan. No where in my application, did it say that I got married in Pakistan, was present in Pakistan and nowhere in my wife Travel history did it say that she ever visted Pakistan. I sent them my original maariage certificate as well as the English certified copy. It clearly says Afghanistan. They are just blinding sending correspondence. I provided them with my wedding photos. There is a police officer present in my wedding wearing Afghan Local Police uniform with the logo also written in English. They asked for wedding photos again. Did they lose it? No where in the corrospondence did it say that they need more photos in addition to the one I sent.

3. Police certificate: The first time they send me a correspondence, there is a link in it that tells you how to get a police certificate. It says to go to the local police station. She went there and the local police had no clue what it is and what to write in the police certificate they gave her. No where in the first correspondence they send me does it says that you need to get the police certificate from Afghan consulate. A consulate is usually located outside of the country and not inside. It did not make sense to me for my wife to go outside of Afghanistan to get a police certificate or for me to go to an Embassy here to get one. After replying to that correspondence they put a vague line to get it from Afghan consulate with still links to the old way. Why did they not update the website then? Why is it still not updates? I had to figure it out through this forums and my own research.

3.People from Pakistan and Afghanistan will take longer due to security concerns: This is just an unfair process to Afghan and Pakistani applicationts. They just paint all citizen of Pakistan and Afghanistan with the same brush. There are many mass shootings in USA surpassing all the terrorist attacks but US citizen don’t usually get past the 12 months for security reasons.
4. There are multiple examples of VO sending letters to people and not explaining things and expecting people to figure out.
5. There are multie examples on this forum from Afghan applicants whose files were transferred to NDVO and no instructions on how to submit a passport for Permanent resident visa. CIC also did not keep in mind the amount of time it takes to get a visa for India, the amount of money it takes to buy tickets to go to India and the extra cost associated with it. Usually Afghans and Pakistani PAs and their sponsor are on the lower end of payscale.
6. CIC fails to keep in mind when issuing Permenant resident visa to give the PA and sponsor enough time just in case it is high ticket seasons and a ticket could cost over $2000. They know that Afghanistan is among one of the poorest country.Such a great start for living in a new country and start a new life.
Thanks
I hope you understand my frustrations for my fellow Afghans. I was taking for silent the majority of Afghans who may not be able to show their opinion.
My wife’s case is at 7 months.

Unfortunately I think you forget that Canada is in a fortunate position that they have more immigrants applying than they want to accept. You can't expect a government agency to care about things like high season for plane tickets. When deciding to marry someone from your country of origin you accept the complications and expenses that come with it. Canada is a multicultural country where you could also find a spouse from your religious/ethnic/cultural/etc. group.

Thanks for your reply. It is not always possible to find a spouse from your own background and culture in Canada. Done that already. Maybe, my children will be lucky and Canada would be much more diverse by then. Unfortunately, many people who are born in Canada fail to understand that there are many subgroups in a specific regions and even within the same country. They speak many different languages within the same country. For example, In Afghanistan, there are two official languages, Pashto and Dari + 30 other languages. There 11+ ethnic groups in Afghanistan. This include Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, Aimaks, Turkmen, Baloch, Pashayi, Nuristani, Pamiris, Arabs, Sikhs etc. Plus, Afghanistan is not a desert. It has places like Alberta and BC. Its snows in Afghanistan. There are avalanches in Afghanistan and Ski resorts being built. For more info, please see wikepedia. Also, Afghanistan is not in middle east. It is located in Central and South Asia. Plus, the Afghan government is making great effort not to lose its doctors, engineers, teachers, etc to countries like Canada, US, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden Gremany, Norway etc. Many Canadian also fail to understand that many immigrants are doing jobs that Canadian born would not do all their life. I had so many Canadian born coworkers who worked with me for a month or two and decided it is not for them and quit. Plus many Canadian born don’t appreciate Canada as much as we do because we have to work so hard for it every step. We were not given these privileges just because we were born here.

Not sure why most of this is relevant. Yes I am aware of the geography of Afghanistan. The fighting in the region is even tied to the weather because the winters can be harsh. Your spouse is leaving Afghanistan and likely taking another skilled person away from the country. If marrying someone from your cultural group/religion/etc. is your number one priority unfortunately there will be a waiting period. 1 year is similar to other countries. Shorter than many and with no income requirement. Given that the processing times have now become similar for inland and outland and have been reduced from 2 to 1 year for a large proportion of applicants I think the government has already been very accommodating.
