Thank you for reading this post. Please advise on our situation.
Long story short, my spouse received her permanent resident status back in Spring 2011 through spousal sponsorship. At that time, she also had a refugee claim in process since we were advised after submitting spousal sponsorship application that my wife would also qualify for a convention refugee by a legal clinic in Toronto. I recently received a notice to appear for refugee hearing and was honestly surprised since I thought that once my wife received her permanent residency through sponsorship her refugee claim was abandoned. She is out of the country right now and will be back next month and IRB wouldn't speak to me because I wasn't appointed a representative by my spouse. I'd appreciate any advise on this matter. Thanks in advance!
 
Simply receiving PR by virtue of spousal sponsorship does not mean that the refugee claim is now null and void. Your wife is responsible for withdrawing her claim to protection as a refugee, it is not the IRB's responsibility to make that decision for her.
