My spouse was not issued a visitor record but all her details (Full name, DOB, relationship) are mentioned on my new WP under the head "Accompanying Family Members".

I just received my new extended WP but she was not issued a separate visitor record saying that her status is still not expired. Please advise if I need to extend her status as visitor or should consider the fact that her details are present on my new WP and it gives her the right to continue her stay in Canada?

She was never issued a visitor record when she entered canada, but she was having a valid status when I applied for WP extension.

My question is did your wife came on visitor visa? What do you mean by valid status?
Was her visitor visa still valid when you applied for work permit extension?

toronto07, yes, my wife came on a visitor visa and her visitor status was valid when I applied for WP.

The reason why I say her visitor status was valid and not the visitor visa is because she was not issued a visitor record when entering canada and CIC law says that if the visitor is not issued a visitor record at the port of entry, the person can by default stay for 6 months from the date of entry irrespective of her visitor visa expiry date.

A Visitor's record is for visa exempt countries only. Is your wife from a visa exempt country?

amikety, sorry but you are wrong. I am from a non-visa exempt country. Its not mandatory for us to have a visitor record but I am just trying to understand the uses of having a visitor record.

Here's a question for you. Did you PAY for the VR? Because they cost $75.
