Just be prepared to be denied entry. I my husband and I planned on me staying with him for 5 months while he finished out a work contract in BC. They denied me entry stating we could not prove that my husband made enough money to support us both. my husband is a member of the Canadians Armed Forces, and was told that the boarder officer thought he was lying about being financially stable enough to care for a wife who legally couldn't work. We've also been told, many times, that the "allowed" 6 months is not for everyone. It is 100% up to the officer how long each visitors is allowed to stay. The officer could order you to leave in a few weeks, few months or not allowed you in at all. And in my experience, telling them you will stay longer if approved is not a smart move. To the officer, they hear that you will 100% stay longer no matter what. You need to be honest, but also tell them what they want to hear. My husband and I ate constantly questioned and the officer is always trying to trick us into saying I am living in CA, or he is living in the US. We visit each other monthly and are questioned each and every time.
That is definitely odd. My husband and I are American/Canada and I used to drive across every weekend with no problem. They never questioned me or him even before we applied for our PR. He flew up here for 6 months, no questions. I moved there for 9 months on a student visa and had my van packed to the roof, with my cat, and my fiance (who had just been in Canada for 5 months visiting) and they barely even looked at me. So I wouldn't say she should be prepared to be denied entry.

My, that sounds so unfair. Hope it's all over for you soon and you won't have to go through that.
It is very unfair. They honestly make us feel like we are criminals for wanting to visit each other. My husband though, has it easier at times. All he has to say is "No, I am visiting my wife who has her application in to come live in Canada." And he passes right through they just want to make sure we won't be a burden on the system. However, I need to prove that I work full time in the states and that I will only come to live once I am approved.

And No, I did not have all sorts of belongings with me. I am a US citizen. And just graduated school and in between college and the real world, wanted to spend time with my new husband. At first they denied me. Then my husband had to show them pay stubs from the Army. Then they attached a visitors log into my passports stating I needed to leave by a certain date, which was only allowing me 2 months. I was able to pay $75 to get it approved for a longer stay but was again scorned about how little money my husband makes and how if we go on welfare I will be banned from ever visiting Canada again. So yea, I was flagged. But only because that one Officer chose to flag me. Which, is my only point. If the officer you get doesn't want to let you in, they don't have to. They have the final say. If they think you are lying you will be flagged or even denied entry. I had all my paperwork with me to show I had a job lined up and therefore was not going to stay forever I'm Canada yet. But the officers concern was not how any items I had with me, or how long I was going to stay...but the officer was in a pissy mood (and showed it) and took her bad mood put on me. They don't need a reason to deny you, or limit your stay. It was mad very, very clear to us by many different officers.

By the way, I'm bringing 2 suitcases only. One on board and one checked -- hope that's acceptable.
It should be acceptable..that's what I always bring ;D one large checked, one small carry-on and my laptop bag. You shouldn't have trouble, I think it just depends on the officer...sometimes I pass and they don't ask me any questions ;) ....sometimes they ask about my ties to the US and sometimes they give me the third degree  ...on our honeymoon we crossed into buffalo, NY by car, the officer made us get out of the car and open the truck, they checked the back seat, they made us open our suitcase..we told them we had just got married and we were on our honeymoon...that eventually I would apply for PR...showed them my return ticket...our passports and my work ID...then they let us go...it was easier on the way back into Canada...it just depends on the officer I think
