Hi, thanks guys for the reply.

I'm Italian and I've been studing at Seneca college for two years. Currently I'm working as co-op student.
My study permit will expire in 2014.

I have to say that I achieved many awards from Seneca such as president honor list etc for the high grades that I'm getting.

Now you have more informations, what do you think it's more suitable for me?

Thanks again.

Edit: my course is computer programming and analysis.

Hi Brian,

Since you are an Italian, you don't need to worry about TRVs/ Temporary Resident Visa like others. Now as you have mentioned, you are studying for past two years and also have a valid study permit till 2014, I assume you are studying a 4 years degree course in Computer prog. & analysis.
After completion of your studies, you can apply for POST GRADUATE WORK PERMIT and since you are pursuing a course of duration of more than 2 years, you will receive a 3 years open post graduate work permit form CIC. To learn more about PGWP, visit: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

Now, after receiving your PGWP, you can choose to immigrate / stay permanently in Canada via many ways. Usually the 1st route to stay permanently in Canada is via CEC or Canadian experience class, in which, after pursuing any course of minimum 2 years, you must find a SKILLED job (ONLY NOC O,A OR B type jobs and not unskilled or any low level jobs-NOC C,D) for 1 year and then apply for PR via this route. see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp
2nd route is through PNP or Provincial nomination programme, where if you do a skilled job (NOC O,A,B) for just 6 months (may or may not be in your field depending upon province), you can apply for nomination and then PR. And since you are in Ontario, you can look forward to apply under Ontario PNP. See: http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/pnp/index.htm
3rd route is you may choose to shift to other provinces and apply under their respective Provincial Nominee programmes.

So, there are plenty of options. just concentrate on passing your course, get the PGWP and then find a skilled job and choose appropriate pathways towards your PR.

Best of luck.

Hi,

1. You are free to work in any field, not necessarily in own field. The only condition is, job classification must be either NOC O, A or B.

NOC is National Occupation Classification, as per Canadian Govt. Human resources and Skill Development. The skilled jobs includes, NOC O- Managerial level occupations, NOC A- Requires Univ. degree/ Professionals, NOC B- Requires some kind of college education / Apprenticeship training, NOC C- Occupations requiring secondary school/ job specific training and finally NOC D- jobs that are unskilled/ no education required.
To get the more detailed idea take a look at this chart: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/pdf/Matrix.pdf

Usually, you will come to know the rating of your job by the job type/description that will be specified by your employer.

Ok perfect all clear now, thank you so much.

Last question, let's say I find a job with B rating, what are the chances that they will give me the residence on 100?

Does my employer need to do paper work on anything for the application?

Thanks.

Hi,

After you get your Post graduate work permit (PGWP), suppose you get a NOC B level job, work for 6 months- 1year (depending upon category you choose to apply to.. 6 months for PNP/ 1year for CEC), then you apply for PR under CEC class OR apply for PNP nomination, and once nominated by the province, you apply to the federal govt. for PR. There are many factors and requirements for getting the PR, which you must fulfill as stated above like completing your course, getting the PGWP, then working for required time in a required level of job(NOC O,A or B), and then finally applying for PR. Although, decesion to give PR, by the Canadian federal govt. is handled on case by case basis, but in general, if you follow the guidelines properly , under CEC or PNP, you should have no problem in getting the PR.

That depends on the type of PNP/CEC you are choosing. For example, Ontario PNP is employer driven. Check the website for more details.

You are in Ontario, so CEC is the option for you.

However, if you have no problem in moving to other provinces such as Manitoba or Saskatchewan, then you can be eligible for PNP.

Good Luck!

Ok thanks Again :)

Another question: do you know how long it takes for the pgwp? Can I apply for it before I finish school or I have to apply right after graduation? In the waiting can I work? Or I need to have it?

Thanks a lot!!

Hi,

Usually it takes 2-4 weeks or may be up-to 60 days to get PGWP. You can apply for it, once you finish your course, get final transcripts confirming that you have completed the course (not wait till convocation) and apply for it within the 90 days of your study permit validity, which is usually 90 days more than your actual length of course. While in the waiting period, ONLY if you hold an OFF campus work permit, you can start your job in that OFF campus work permit, till the PGWP comes.

Check out this previous post where, I did my best to answer certain queries regarding PGWP, SIN etc. Go through it
