Hi, I feel silly asking this but it's actually got us stumped. We need to put my husband's country of birth on form IMM 1344. In his Canadian passport it states Place of Birth - GBR for United Kingdom. He was born in Northern Ireland which is a country in the United Kingdom. Which one do we use? The one in the passport (GBR) or Northern Ireland? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm starting to realise how particular the immigration process is thanks to the posts in this forum.

How about using U.K.

I would say use the one the Canadian passport agrees to, GBR.

Seeing as how it's actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but that won't hold in that tiny space. LOL.

As a Brit, the most common usage that I see is U.K.
Like you said the other options don't really fit.

No you actually use one of the 4 countries , England, Wales Scotland, N.I. (Don't know how the Jersey Islands are listed) If you note if you try to use ecas and put in UK instead of England, it won't find you.

Go with whats written on ur passport, its better ;) !!!

I used England and I see nothing wrong in using Northern Ireland as his place of birth.

Contrary to what many believe, I think even the IO's know that NI is part of the UK... ;D ;D ;D

Then again, maybe not.... ;D

Thanks everybody, I appreciate your comments. We'll go with NI because of PMM writing about ecas. I'd hate to discover we can't be found onit because of UK not being listed. I didn't know about ecas..but I'm learning :)
