Hello,

I've made the mistake of putting "Dombivali" as my Place of Birth on my Canadian passport. When I went to surrender my Indian citizenship at BLS Toronto, they told me that it should be "Dombivli"; and to get my passport corrected. I only got my passport made in Jan, and I'd have to re-do the entire Canadian Passport process to surrender my Indian citizenship now. Has anyone else faced this problem before? Is it worth a shot to send in the application anyway? Or should I get the passport remade?

Wouldn't an affidavit sort it out that both are the same place?
@abbas.pasha is an expert in it and I will let him share his thoughts on it.

In our daughter's scenario we made one and included along with the OCI application.
Surrender ke time pe there was no issue created by BLS

Thank you very much @abbas.pasha ! This would help a lot, because I really don't want to apply for a new passport; especially with the general strike coming up. I will do that. I've never done that in Canada though. If I recall correctly from my Indian experience; I will type up a letter saying they are one and the same, and a lawyer will notarise it. Is that correct?

One query. Is the place of birth in the passport based on what you write for passport application or is it based on what you have mentioned in your PR and Citizenship application?
For minor's Canadian passport application, Passport Canada uses city mentioned on the Birth Certificate
In my daughter's application case birth certificate was issued by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and on the birth certificate the city reference was only Delhi. So Passport Canada said they can only mention Delhi and not New Delhi (which is what we wanted and was included on the Indian Passport)

The place of birth in Canadian passport is based on what you write for the passport application, yes. I've spelled this city's name this way my whole life; and there are other similarly named cities like Borivali, Kandivali which do have an "A" in there. Its totally my mistake; but it is an entirely inconsequential one. Indian names weren't meant to be written in Latin script lol
