I think, realistic expectations are the key. Best of luck!

Here's another thread from these forums: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-work-experience-useful-t46812.0.html
To summarize: "...IT manager job I had for the previous 14 years..." (in the US)... can't find work in Canada....the suggestion from someone else... "...you might have to start off as a system administrator or even tech support".
You always see horror stories like that. MIT educated engineers who end up driving cabs in Toronto. At the end of the day though it is very much down the individual in question and everybody's story is different. The situation is not unique to Canada either. You just have to knuckle down and make the most of it.

This thread is most relevant and recent..

Highly positive and encouraging. You can shoot the questions directly to that guy in that thread as he is proactively responding to people. He was able to land in great job without any Canadian experience or education, of course with a pinch of struggle.

Cheers! Glad someone posted a positive, encouraging experience for those planning on moving.

(However, I must point out that.... that poster is in his/her mid-20s, has family & a 'network' there, and got some Canadian credential/qualification(i think)).
