Hi istel0887

Sorry took me so long to respond to this, I just couldn't find the thread :o

I honestly haven't heard of credit cards (i,e. Visa or Mastercard) that couldn't be used abroad or other currencies. They will just charge you at the exchange rate they have for the day, so it might be more expensive. I am not also sure if they have exchange rate charges, too.

As long as the establishments has the logo and says they do accept them, it should be fine.

If you really want to know, try using your card. As long as you have CAD$550 or more in your limit, I don't see any reason why it would be rejected. When I paid, I used a debit card (UK bank) not even a credit card (but it's a Visa) and I was not charged for exchange rate services. That might depend on the bank you use, I guess. And I think credit cards are much more flexible than debit cards.

Worse case scenario, if it got rejected, you have to ask your sister to pay on your behalf, which you planned in the first place.

Have you already paid?

Hi tabs179,

I'm sorry im just new here and when i tried to reply with your first message posted on mine i just can't make it.

I have not paid yet..Please i have another question..there is a bank that i called earlier who told me that they can make me a bank draft but only in terms of US dollar..what can you say about this? in the checklist it is stated that it should be in canadian funds ONLY.. :(

Thank you.

Hi istel0887,

Oh no need to apologize. It's my fault also for not finding the thread LoL

So, to answer your question...

Unfortunately, you have pay it in Canadian Dollars. This is because the CIC will not bother to change any currency for so many reasons.

Particularly:

(1) They do not have any allocated staff who will do that job. They need authority and other factors to accept different currencies.
(2) They might loose some money in the exchange rate.

So, a bank draft/ manager's draft in US dollars won't be of any help.

You probably want this payment over and done with, so that you can submit your application. Like I said earlier, try your credit card first. Just make sure that you got all the details correct, especially the address. I used my PH address (which was stupid of me) at first, but I should have put the UK address as that is what my bank in UK has in their records. But I was successful in my second attempt.
So, make sure you have enter the exact address as what your bank has in their records when filling in the online payment form.

Or, yes, ask your sister to do pay on your behalf as it is also possible.

hi tabs179,

thank you very much..

hey i have a different question now..

my sister is about to be married in two months..she said that i can go there to attend her wedding because we are siblings and i can be granted a very short visit visa which is good for a month..do you think if i will going to pursue visiting her on her wedding will that affect my permanent resident application?

for my payment problem, i will try again another option which is to pay via my debit here in the philippines (under peso currency) if the online payment accepts my transaction it will be really nice (do you think that's possible) but if not i will just really let my sister pay for this one using her credit card..

thank you for your patience and response..

hey istel0887,

In regards to your visit to Canada, I don't see any reason why it will affect your application. You are only applying for a short visit and want to be there for her wedding. Perhaps there is an option in the Canadian Embassy visit visa form where you can fill in regarding any permanent applications for immigration (I have seen forms likes this for jobs, not sure about visas). The only issue there is that what if your Medical Request (MR) arrives while you are in Canada. I have no idea how long is the time limit CIC provides for you to complete the MR and submit it. There must be a deadline for that. As I haven't experienced MR yet, I suggest you ask other posters regarding this.

Although, good luck in trying to get a visa within two months, applying from the PH takes too much time. And with Christmas approaching, you are pressed for time. So, you have to act quick in getting a visit visa.

Moving over to your bank issues, if your debit card is a Mastercard Debit or Visa Debit, it should be fine.

So, while we are waiting patiently for the successful result of our next application. What have we all doing for our preparation for Canada, during our free time?

As for me:

(1) read forum threads (here) with the hope to learn something new about applications and living in Canada
(2) work on the pre-arrival workbook provided by Manitoba
(3) checking job listing - I opted to check lower level jobs first, see how much in demand they are, and if I am even qualified. One has to gain work experience first in a new country, and it's more realistic to expect to be hired from the bottom pile of jobs. ???
(4) checking accommodation listings - to have an idea how budget my living expense, know the rules and requirements. I do not plan to stay with my uncle forever LoL
(5) reading about Canada - news, government websites etc. - it's good to be well informed about the country itself
(6) and last but not the list, the most important thing - knitting scarves, hats, sweaters/ vest tops in preparation for winter LoL (better than twiddling my thumbs... :P)

I do have a job though, so I am not completely obsessed and over-excited (YET)

Please share how you are currently preparing for your move.

Hello tabs179!

I'm also doing the same thing, been searching online about how will I be able to practice my profession in alberta.. So much to do before going there, have to take IELTS or CELBAN.. Hoping to do what I love & enjoy the most, that is to work in the hospital or home care..:)

Wow, congratulations narsse. Nakaka-excite kahit hindi pa ako.

How long did you wait? And how did you receive your MR?

As far as I know sa mga threads average request for passport is 1-2 months.

More question, did they ask you for any other requirements before you received a request for MR? And what is the deadline for MR?

Please share your experience sa MR, ha? What are the tests etc and where did you have yours. Curious ako ;D

Hi istel0887,

I am happy to help because I have also been asking some posts for my own curiosities. So, I understand everyone's worries and queries in their applications.

I submitted my application to CIC Nova Scotia only last month, 28 September 2013. I had my papers all ready by end of August, but I had to generate funds for the visa application. LoL I wasn't expecting to hear anything from Manitoba in a while, so I didn't expect that I would need the money soon. I have also already paid for my Right of Permanent Resident Fee (RPRF) so that I won't have to worry about any further funds except for my medicals and flight ticket (nakaka-excite hehehe). Look at narsse, I don't think she received an AOR anymore, direct to Medical Request (MR). And she was only a month earlier than me. But then, she has a different kind of stream and her husband is already in Canada. Might be the reason.

Anyway, I got also 10 bars on the Generic Application Form IMM0008.

May I ask which PNP you will be applying for? I am not sure if I have read anything about it anywhere? Just curious, too. :P

Hi Narsse,

I noticed that your AINP only took you 3 months. Mine took 6 months because I am not under Family Stream, I applied via General Stream. That is because I kept on being rejected for Family Stream (they don't accept my work experience, unlike in General Stream). Pero, sana nga mabilis na rin ang CIC.

Where did you hear the stories regarding MR in Cebu? I am not rushing to go this year, tickets are super expensive over the the Christmas holidays and it isn't easy to go on interviews around that time of the year. Everybody just want to celebrate LoL But I bet you are hoping to celebrate with your husband as you have been apart for a while now.

I don't think everyone gets their AOR and MR together, there are threads here who received an AOR but no MR. So, yours is really a very quick process.

Looking forward to hear about your MR experience.

Hi tabs179,

I am applying under general stream of pnp.though i have a sister there but i have not tried the family sponsorship style because before my sister went there she also applied under general stream (we have our aunt and uncle there) so general stream is the procedure we are more familiar with..

I got my letter of approval from manitoba office last june and i have until november to submit my forms to NS..but i will just submit it this week (i will just have to send it maybe through lbc for faster processing, hopefully 4days)..the reason for this delay submission is i gathered again all my supporting docs like school updated certificate from work, funds, etc..but as far as im reading some thread some applicants did not submit any latest/updated documents to cic..is that ok? because me, i will going to submit the whole bundle of documents from checklist together with the supporting docs.

What stream have you applied for?

Thanks..
