Hello

A quick question regarding the physical presence online calculator tool
it asks :
*Did you leave Canada between 2018-mm-dd and 2023-mm-dd? Answer 'Yes' if you left Canada for any reason including vacation, work, business, family matters, school, illness, etc.

the dates consider the 5 years before my signing date
I became a permanent resident back in 2020 which was my landing date, I was obviously outside Canada before that but since I landed and became a PR , I never traveled outside Canada

so if I anser "yes" it asks me for when I left Canada and when I returned which doesn't apply to me....
so in my specific case, and probably I'm a bit confused because of the question wording... should I answer "NO" ?

Hi, Sulaiman, did you leave Canada between 2018 and 2020 when you became PR? If yes, then you need to answer "YES" and enlist all of your travels. Because it is all about the last 5 years of your eligibility, even before you landed as a PR. During that time you must have a legal status (for example student or worker) in Canada if you want to claim those days.

I had no ties or status in Canada before 2020,my first time ever to land in Canada was 2020
And I'm not trying to claim any days before I became a PR
That being said, I had traveled prior my landing to different countries (none of them was Canada)

From what I understand, based on your previous post, you haven't been to Canada at all and never lived in Canada under any legal status before becoming a permanent resident (PR) in 2020. Based on that, I don't think you qualify for a Canadian Citizenship grant as of now. One of the requirements for the citizenship grant is - have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years.
For example, if you first entered Canada on January 9th, 2020, you will be eligible to apply for a Canadian citizenship grant on January 9th, 2025 if you also meet other criteria.

I dont feel this is right. With this logic when @Sulaiman87 applies for citizenship he will have 1825 days of physical presence(if he is not going out of Canada) on Jan 9th 2025. If you come to Canada on X date after getting PR on 1095 day you are eligible for citizenship i.e. 3rd year completion. 5 year logic works when you are in and out of Canada and 1095 is not getting accumulated.

I see. I must have misinterpreted this:

You (and some minors, if applicable) must have been physically in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) during the 5 years before the date you sign your application. We encourage you to apply with more than 1,095 days of living in Canada in case there's a problem with the calculation.

So, the OP can go ahead and apply as long as they have at least 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada. And as they never left Canada since they became PR, they are good to apply.
