Physical presence calculator - transit flights

Hello,

I've got a question about physical presence calculator, specifically about "Destination" and "Reason" fields. There is a note on the "Absence" page: "If you visited more than one country during the same absence, list the first country in 'Destination' and list the other countries in the 'Reason' field."

So in my case there was a trip from Canada to Ukraine with connection flights in USA and Germany. I will appreciate if someone can help me figuring out what to put in "Destination" and "Reason" fields. Is transit stop considered a "visit" to country?

Based on the note above, I assume I should put "USA" in "Destination" and "Germany, Ukraine" in the "Reason" field, but I am not sure.

Thank you.

I can only tell you what I did and my reasoning for it.
I did not include transit stops as I never left the secure area of the airport during those transit stops. I never "entered" the country and that to me was not a visit.

Thanks for the reply.
It makes sense, although regular visitor visa was used for transit in USA and there is a stamp in passport about entering US. Thus, I assume that "transit" should be counted as a visit, while connection flight in Germany(no stamps in passport, didn't leave transit zone) might be skipped.

No, I didn't include transit stops - unless you actually spent time there.

In this case, be truthful and use common sense.

I agree, its just a transit, you shouldn't need to include it as you didn't enter the country,

Your destination was Ukraine and you should put as the following:

"I visited Ukraine for xx days. I left Canada on xx-xx-xx date and my flight was via USA and Germany. I transited through USA and Germany, but my end destination was Ukraine. Later, I reached Canada on xx-xx-xx date via connecting flight from xxx city."

You get 400 characters to explain your situation in the Reason field, so you can tell them sequence of events or detailed description of itenary.

I agree as well. However, during transit if passport was stamped for entry, for example, in OPs case passport was stamped in USA while transiting, then I would mention that. The reason is that during interview they can view the stamp and question. Rater than explaining on spot and raising any chances for suspicion, I would explain in Residence Calculator.

Your destination is definitely: Ukraine.

In reason, you can mention transiting through US and Germany. or you can leave it out if you never left the transit area. Mentioning it wont hurt. Being in the international border is not entering the country.
