I'm going to put my DOB on the back of each photo, too; better safe than sorry.
Again, it's not required but it doesn't hurt hehehe

Just make sure that it has the real requirements:

Requirements
  • Provide two (2) identical citizenship photographs (except Renunciation applications, where only one (1) photo is required.)
  • Your photographs must comply with the specifications below. If the photographs do not meet the specifications, you will have to provide new photographs before your application can be processed.
  • Photographs must be printed on quality photographic paper.
  • Provide the name of the photographer or the studio, the studio address and the date the photos were taken on the back of the photos
  • Print the name of the person on the back of the photos.

Hi there, I got my pic taken today. 2 of them. The thing is that only one pic has the name of the studio and adress which is good but the 2nd pic doesn’t have anything on it. Should I just write on it myself?

Technically it doesn't say that the information has to be stamped by the studio so it shouldn't be a problem. If it was me I would try to go to the studio and get it stamped but I'm just paranoid.

Guys, please don't just randomly add stuff. This is the last thing IRCC wants. What IRCC wants is for you to follow the instructions they have put online. As per the photo specs:

- The photos should be the correct (new size)
- The photos should have the required stamp with the date
- You should print your name on the photos.

If IRCC wanted your DOB on them, they would ask for it. Just follow the instructions! :)

Actually, it does. The specification states:
  • Provide the name of the photographer or the studio, the studio address and the date the photos were taken on the back of the photos
This is exactly what information the studio will stamp on the back of the pictures.

I think the DOB nonsense is cleared already. The last question was about having the stamp in only one of the photos and adding the information on the other one manually.

If you manually add it you are still providing the required information. What I'm saying is that it doesn't specify "The studio has to stamp their information" or something like that.

The IRCC photo specification requests that the details be put on the back of both pictures. So the studio should stamp both pictures.

"The IRCC photo specification requests that the details be put on the back of both pictures" = Agree

"So the studio should stamp both pictures" = Nowhere in the instructions it specifies that.

As long as the required information is provided in both photos you would be in compliance.

I suggest the safest route that is getting both stamped but technically as long as the information is there it shouldn't be a problem.

I am jumping into this thread with a slightly different question.

I took my photo three weeks ago at Costco and sent my application last week. While I knew that the size of the photo has to be 50 mm by 70 mm, I didn't actually measure it. What happened when I went to Costco is that the employee there told me that they know the new change of photo requirement, but didn't explicitly say that the size went up from 35 mm by 45 mm to 50 mm by 70 mm. Anyway, stamps and names are there at the back of photos and I sent the application. Now going through all photo related posts, I realize that many are getting wrong (old) format. Although my feeling when I got my photo was that they were large and seems to be comparable to the passport photo (I did one for my little one a few months ago), I couldn't really confirm that what the size was (should have really measured it with a ruler).

So my question is, does anyone know if all Costco stores would have known the new requirement in the system and they will provide the right size for sure? I mean, I would imagine that their photo system has predefined settings where the employee can choose passport, citizenship, and permanent residence, and when the new change of photo requirement for citizenship happened in August (correct me if I am wrong), they would have updated all stores at the same time and so they will always provide the right format? Any thought?

The best, and safest advice to give to prospective applicants is to have both pictures stamped. IRCC has always required this. My advice would be to take the printout of the spec that states the details need to be on the back of both pictures. The studio will happily stamp both pictures. I'm less about interpreting it to mean something it hasn't meant before - and more about keeping it consistent with IRCC processes over the last 5 years - unless IRCC has confirmed otherwise.

People - get both photos stamped. It's that simple. If the studio has a question - refer them to the spec.

One could hope so, but like everything it's generally always better to double-check everything for one's self, and to not be afraid to advocate for one's self politely but firmly, either. I did my photos on Monday at London Drugs and there was some minor confusion by the clerk doing them for me. At first she had me done as a child (different spec's, apparently), then she was going to only stamp one with the guarantor thing, so I certainly spoke up and finally got what I believe to be the correct result.

As you've just submitted your application and I'm going to be submitting mine shortly, can I ask you if the CIC/IRCC fee receipt thing's working now and do I have to be near a printer or can their system just email me my receipt for printing later?

I don't think anyone can definitively confirm this. Chances are your application will still proceed, even if the size is wrong - and they will request new pictures.

I used the pay system three weeks ago so I don't have an answer. I would guess it should be working as no one is asking this type of questions anymore?

It is recommended to take a printed copy of the specification to your photographer.
I don't care what the photographer thinks is correct, the spec is the spec.
I also recommend that you take a ruler and ensure the photo size is the correct size, AND that the height of your face is within the defined limits.
I had a very nice photo taken by a pleasant assistant but the face was too big within the border of the picture.
A little time taken at this stage of the application can save months later on. :)
