Hi All

For CEC-PR application, the checklist says the photos must "bear the date the photo was taken (not the date the photo was printed) directly on the back (stick-on labels are not acceptable)".

Now what happened is I got my pictures taken in India (last month) and the person wrote the date with ink (neither stamped nor printed) on the back of photos. I am concerned if this is OK or I need to get photos retaken (from walmart or shoppers drug)where they stamp on back of photos.

Any suggestions please.

I think you should go for new ones. I faced similar dilemma since my photos were couple on months old from India. Eventually I went for new ones taken at Costco with date stamped on back side.

Hi vyasd

Did you get a new set of photos because you thought they were not recent or because of the date written on back??
Thanks

Because date was not written on the back. Otherwise CIC would accept 6 months old photos, I think.

Most professional places use stamps. I don't necessarily think it would be an issue, but since photos are cheap and the last thing you want is some odd technicality resulting in your application being returned, I would recommend getting your photos retaken.

If you want you can take new photos. But, I don't think also it is going to be a big issue.

Also, it is clearly written in the documents checklist point 14 "On the back of 5 photos, WRITE name and date of birth of the person who appears in the photo as well as the date the photo was taken, leave the 6th photograph blank"

Also, in the instruction manual it says the photos must BEAR the date the photo was taken, it does not say it must be printed on the back or stumped by the photographer. If you hand-write the date, it stills satisfies the criteria as long as you are truthful regarding the date the photo was taken.

Finally, its your choice.

Hi Lucky_CA,

I hope you don't mind my asking this, but did you do what you preach?..

Isn't it true that application can be rejected because the dates are hand-written?

regards,
Shalini.

Yes, I did what I preached.

I never saw anyone's application got rejected for photographs. They may either return your application or ask for new photo with the required specification. It happened to a friend of mine. The photo was taken by professional photographer with date stamped on the back, however, it did not match the aspect ratio of CIC's specification and CIC asked for new photographs at the later stage of the application processing.

I used the photos that I printed off of a Kodak kiosk in Shopper's Drug-mart. (69 cents for a 5x6 that can accommodate 8 PR spec photos). I sized my photo using Photoshop and had it multiplied for a 5x6 sheet. I cut them with a box cutter and a 6 inch flat ruler; wrote the dates in the back of the photos with regular black ball point pen.

I did not add a covering letter. Just the passport, the biodata form and the photos wrapped in a post it paper. Got my COPR in less than a month just fine.
