Phone Interview?

Is it possible for CIC to conduct an interview over the phone? The reason I am asking is that my friend applied for EE under CEC Inland, and her Canadian reference was contacted by phone to confirm the employment details on Friday. The phone call came from a Private Caller. Today my friend received a phone call from a private number but she didn't get a chance to pick it up, and she thinks it might have been CIC. Any thoughts?

CIC do sometimes call employers to verify employment details of the applicant. I heard that CIC may even call the applicant to verify some details - that was before CIC deployed MyCIC online system. But CIC will never call and ask to make payment or something like this. This should immediately rise a red flag. There is a lot of "immigration" scam ongoing. False "cic agents" asking to make payment or else the application would be refused.

A quick question regarding these phone calls just out of curiosity: what happens if CIC decides to call my employer but he simply doesn't speak english?

since your employer signed your experience letter or offer letter and stuff like that, which is suppose to be in english or else you need translation, so if it is in english and is signed by your employer than cic assumes your employer speaks and or atleast understand english

Yes I imagine so, but as you said, the letter could have been translated later.

I'm a PNP nominee(CEC inland) from Ontario. They called both me and my employer to ask for details related to my job. They were very, VERY thorough with the details. happened about 2 month ago

Thanks! That is very helpful. Do you recall whether they called from a Private Number?

Was this the Govt of Ontario w/ regards to your PNP or was it IRCC with regards to your EE?

Yeah, this is for the Ontario PNP rather than IRCC (Ottawa), but the original question in this thread was about CIC/IRCC.

It was the government of Ontario. They asked a whole bunch of questions. I know you are looking for CIC questions but since I got my PNP, Ontario government were the ones who asked me for info. They asked about my source of fund, asked to give them 12 month of bank statements month showing I got paid on a specific date, they called my manager for my hourly rate, my manger said the interview itself took about 20 seconds lol mine was longer. I was more proactive when they asked questions, so when they asked for example for a few more paystubs, I gave them 12 for the whole year. They only asked clarification questions, question regarding visa for example or my status in Canada. They were very, very polite and accommodating. They just wanted to see if everything is as I stated them. Their review of my file took 4 days only. Insanely quick.

Not for CIC/IRCC, but my employer did receive a phone call from Ontario when I was applying for OINP last year. The interview was apparently very thorough, about 15-20 minutes, and they were interested in clarifying and confirming the details of my employment. They were apparently very polite- a couple of hours after that interview, I got my nomination.
