Hello All,

I am a PhD student in Canada which based on express entry I couldn't get enough point to apply for it. I also used my post-graduation work permit after my master.
Can I get another post-graduation work permit after my PhD?
How can I apply for PR under this situation?
Thanks in advance!

No - you cannot get another PGWP. You can only get the PGWP once in your lifetime.

Your options would be to find an employer after you finish your PhD who is willing to go through the LMIA process so you can get a closed work permit. You could also return to your home country to obtain more work experience there before you apply. Another option would be to check out the PNP programs to see if you qualify for any of those.

I don't have enough details about your case, I guess, to assist you properly but it looks like you did masters from Canada applied for PGWP and worked in Canada as well and presently pursuing Ph.D. studies.
It means after your Ph.D. your education points, in EE, would increase, assuming you will soon finish your studies because at the same time you are losing points for your age. What're your language test scores, are they CLB-9? If not I'd suggest retaking the test and aim to get CLB-9 in all, this would definitely pump up your score. I'm saying this from my personal experience because I'm a Ph.D. student too (from BC), with prior international work experience. The only way I could get PR before I finish my Ph.D. was to get CLB-9 in language tests and after 3 CELPIP and 2 IELTS attempts I got what I was aiming for. It took a while but I've got it finally.

Good luck

Thank you for the details. I really appreciate your time. Actually, my problem is I have around 8 years work experience in back home. My work experience is from Sep 2003 to Sep 2011. I came to Canada in 2011 for my Master and since that time I was in Canada. By considering within the last 10 years work experience which mentioned in CIC website, after this September I can claim just 2 years work experience instead of 3 years. So, if I couldn't get the Language Exam by September then my work experience drop to 2 and reduces my point. This is my problem.

All the best,

How about your Canadian work experience, because you were on a PGWP? Can you count it towards points in EE?
Alternatively, if you did your master's or are doing Ph.D. from BC or ON then you can apply for PNP to claim 600 points, without a job offer.
In the worst case, just take IELTS ASAP, prepare as much as you can (follow tips on http://ieltsliz.com/ it helped me get 7 in Writing from 6) and take a chance.

Good luck

Thanks again, much appreciated. I am in Alberta and couldn't find job during my PGW then after a year I started my PhD. Now, my PGW expired.
I have another exam on Saturday and have chance to do more exam in September. Because, it doesn't ask for specific date in September which means I have whole September as well to claim 3yrs work experience. Hopefully, I can get the results.
I need to have listening 8 and my last result was 7.5
Thanks for the link.

Hi gadhvibhargav,

I am a Ph.D. student in BC and I have submitted my application under the FSW stream of EE.

I submitted in November 2018, they requested an additional medical report from a specialist for my spouse, passed medical in May 2019 and ever since, there have been no changes on my profile.

Please, how long was your processing time?

Hello everyone,
I am also seeking some advice to apply for PR as an International Student. I am currently in my 2nd year of PhD program in Ontario, have 5+ years of teaching experience(outside canada). My CRS score (based on online calculator by cic) turn out to be around 458 which is lower. So, can you advise:

1. Shall I apply for PR under FSW in EE?
2. Any other alternatives/streams to apply?

PS: @Blessed kindly can you share your profile details and provide some guidelines. I will be grateful
@gadhvibhargav yu mentioned that while doing PhD you can apply and earn 600 points under PNP. Can we get points even if the degree is NOT completed yet?

Thanks & Regards
