Hi,

1. Yes, with a 'good academic standing' and ONLY first 1000 applications/year.

All applicants must meet the following minimal requirements to apply as a skilled worker:

- You must have at least one year of continuous full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment
- You must have had this experience within the last 10 years
- Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupation Classification (NOC)

It's there on the guide, page 6. So yes you need at least one year of work experience.

Hi,

1. Read again (point 2) www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp No work experience is required for a Ph.D applicant under FSW program.

@ enfield
This is what I see in your CIC link:

Note: PhD applicants are subject to the same selection criteria as any other FSWP applicant, including minimum language thresholds, having either a completed Canadian educational credential or a completed foreign credential with an ECA, and work experience requirements (i.e. one year of continuous full-time paid experience in a single NOC 0, A or B occupation).

It also states the same thing in the Basic Eligibility section (top of the page):

Also, no matter which of the three groups (eligible occupants, arranged employment & PhD students) above you apply under, you must:
(3) have at least one year of continuous full-time (or an equal amount in continuous part-time) paid work experience within the last ten years in the primary occupation you state in your application.

Hi,

In most cases, PHd applicants at Canadian public universities receive full funding, and work as graduate assistant/research assistant – university, which is a skilled job (NOC 4012).

Usually a PHd takes 4 years of study. And eventually working as a graduate assistant/research assistant... most PHd candidates automatically fulfill the 1 year full time (30 hours/week) or equivalent part time skilled work ex. requirement within the 1st 2 years... and hence are eligible to apply for FSW PHd stream.

I wasn't aware that Grad Research Job fits into NOC category. Anyway, it clears any confusion.
