Hi,

I recently applied for my PGWP after my PhD. I got a job offer, and the employee told me, after applying for my PGWP, to also apply for an employee-specific work permit (just in case the PGWP got denied for some reason).

I applied for my PGWP and 1 week later for this employee-specific work permit.
All the immigration consultants that I spoke to told me that they analyze the applications by date, so they should see first my PGWP and then if it got rejected, they will look at my other close work permit.

They just updated my application. They WITHDRAW my PGWP application (I did not ask for this), and they gave the employee a specific work permit only until June 2026, even with my offer letter contract saying that I have until SEPTEMBER 2027.

Now my partner was in the PGWP application and his application says that it still processing. Is he allowed to work? Why did they withdraw my application? I already opened a request for reconsideration, but I know that this can take weeks... Also, because they got me the wrong length, I am not allowed to apply for my partner's open work permit.

My passport is valid until the end of 2028.

Has anyone got something similar? Any tips on what to do?

Why would you submit two applications? Makes no sense if eligible for PGWP which is an open work permit. Are you not eligible for PGWP? How many consultants did you hire to give you this poor advice?

Once closed work permit was approved then IRCC may have cancelled the PGWP. All you can do is wait for request to reopen PGWP application. Yes, SOWP is at risk because tied to PGWP which is now cancelled. IRCC determines length of closed work permit. Doesn't matter if contract states otherwise.

What is NOC? LMIA exempt? Citizenship?

So you have done the correct thing to submit for reconsideration to reopen PGWP. Hopefully it is reopened before SOWP is reviewed and most likely refused. May want to apply for SOWP based on your closed work permit, if eligible.
