STUDY
Hi all!

I have just fulfilled the requirements for the masters degree. I requested the letter from school confirming the completion of my program. However, I have issues with the transcript. The completion of the program along with the "Pass" on my thesis will not appear on my transcript before the graduation (convocation) date, which is in October. My study permit expires July 31. The IRCC says I shoudn`t wait until I physically attend a convocation ceremony, which seems confusing in my case. Can I apply with whatever transcript I have along with the letter of completion of the studies from my school? I already have a job offer and they are waiting for me to apply so I could start working.

That doesn't seem accurate, convocation is just a ceremony not the graduation, there might not even be any convocations this year, so talk to your school about this. Incomplete transcripts might cause an issue, also if you are going to wait until October you need to extend your study permit.

The graduation date for me would be October 20, 2020, convocation ceremony - October 18 or 19. There will be a virtual convocation. I already have a letter of completion of my studies. The thing is that my transcript will indicate the completion of studies along with "PASS" on thesis some time after official graduation date, which will be October 20. So should I wait 4 months or even longer for the transcript to be updated?

I also cannot extend study permit as I have completed everything. The last requirement was thesis, which I have defended and uploaded to the University cloud storage. Unlike transcript, the letter of completion lists the requirements for the degree and states all of these were met. So, there is no legal reason to extend sp.

Your letter of completion will suffice along with a letter of explanation explaining that since your convocation is in October you are unable to attach a final transcript.
I had a similar problem last year and though my convocation was held in June the degrees were not granted as the university senate usually meet and officially grant it in August.
I managed to secure a PGWP in July on the basis of my completion letter, an unofficial transcript and a letter of explanation without any hiccups.
Good luck.

oh, good someone is in the same boat. Happy you got it! Yeah, the senate will meet in late August but officially grant degrees on October 20. Faculty of Graduate Studies sais that students applied for pgwp before the meeting of the senate, but it is still a bit confusing. I already have a letter of completion and requested a letter of explanation regarding the transcript from my dean as well.

Did your unofficial transcript also not include your thesis? I would say that is the major issue for him. But I believe IRCC has released guidance that due to Covid they will not reject application for missing school docs because they could be delayed so at worst they will just hold onto the application.

You can request an extension for the sole purpose of being able to apply for pgwp no further study proof is required.

there is thesis in the trascript, but it`s not yet graded, even though I have passed and all the reports have been submitted. The Faculty of Graduate Studies claims the "pass" on thesis will appear after final trascripts are released in October.

One of visa consultants said that the letter of completion would be enough and apply for pgwp with the transcript I have + include the explanation letter, and when the transcript is updated just add it through the web form... But I`m still confused about that, so probably someona had the same issues

Letter of completion are issued only when all the academic requirements for the degree are met. So my thesis was graded upon which a letter of completion was issued but since the approval of the senate was pending the official transcript could not be issued and the unofficial transcript just showed all the grades but without any mention of the credentials and this was sufficient as is evident from the issued PGWP.

Right, his doesnt even show the grade/pass for his thesis.
But IRCC guidance to their officers says PGWP are not be rejected for missing school docs due to Covid so he should be fine.

my issue is nit really due to covid.. I also asked the department to process my transcript separately and put pass on thesis in the transcript, but don`t know if it works out.
btw, I'm a girl lol ;)
