I just applied for a temporary work permit, in order to extend my stay here. I am currently under the PGWP holding a permanent position at one of the five big banks here in Canada.

I just noticed on the CIC website there's some new changes about only being able to work in Canada 4 consecutive years at a time. One of the exceptions is those seeking work for professional occupations, NOC A, which I am working under.

I'm wondering how long a temporary work permit would normally be?

I am basically needing this work permit so I can keep my status here valid while I wait for my PR to be processed, which apparently going to be taking a long time.

Any thoughts??

Hi emjay025,

I am in the same situation right now, applying the work visa extension (I am on PGWP as well) but not sure if the extension would be approved.

As I think I am getting my PR approved sometime in this summer, so I only need 1-3 months of the work visa.

That I know of, currently CIC gives us only 1 year work permit.

Hello,

So I did get a work permit after gettign valid LMO from Service Canada. It was valid for 1 year.

Seeing as its now 2012, my work permit will expire near the end of June 2012, but my PR application is still "In Process" transferred to the NY VO.

Does anyone know how I would be able to get Service Canada to extend the LMO? My current position at my workplace is and has always been a permanent position with one of the big banks here in Toronto, so I want to get all the information I can so I can help HR and my reporting manager to fill out the necessary paperwork.

I see that they've eliminated the "Foreign Worker Application to Extend a Labour Market Opinion", but the FAQ on that related HRSDC site still mentions renewing existing temporary foreign workers, but without any clear process on how to do it. Any thoughts??

Guys,

I have the same situation, my Post graduate work permit will expired in mid july and i am still waiting for my 1 year working experience to be fulfilled to apply for my permanent residency under CEC.

I work in one of the big 5 bank as a Financial Service Representative/ Financial Advisor, i heard from some cases that HR from the bank do not going to help you with the LMO.

I am worry that my PR yet still in process and i can't get an LMO and have to leave the company.

Anybody can share their experience.

Thank you

From my experience, HR will only help your hiring/reporting manager with some of the information that needs to be filled in with the LMO application. So it really depends on the hiring/reporting manager.

The LMO my work applied for last year was all filled out by my reporting manager and we got some of the information from HR. Then, she actually told me that I could send it out to Service Canada so I can track it.

What position do you hold?
I found it difficult after graduation to find a job in a highly skilled level, mostly a bank teller position :-\.

Then it makes sense because with Business degree it's difficult to get higher end jobs right after graduation. Since you're in IT then it's different than my situation.

Hey Guys,

Like all you guys, I am also in the similar situation. I have been working from 1 of the 5 big B's in Canada from last 2.5 years. I have handled NOC category of C and A and currently I am in Managerial level. I've applied for my PR and hopefully it will be coming by the end of Sep 2013. However, my PGWP is expiring in Aug 2013., I am just short of 2-3 months. I am not very sure if the HR will be willing to help. Can my reporting Director sign on behalf of HR?? Should I hire a consultant? I am just not sure how i convince my HR to help me. Any suggestions, thoughts.. I would like to have all plan ready before I approach my HR.

You should be eligible for a bridging open work permit when your PGWP is 4 months or less away from expiring. No need of assistance from your director or HR. See below:
